Max Lucado: Trump doesn’t pass the decency test
Washington Post ^ | February 26, 2016 | Max Lucado

Posted on 03/26/2016 10:22:03 AM PDT by Timmy

As the father of three daughters, I reserved the right to interview their dates. . . For the next few hours, she would be affected by his ability to drive a car, avoid the bad crowds and stay sober. I wanted to know if he could do it. I wanted to know if he was decent.

This was my word: “decent.” Would he treat my daughter with kindness and respect? Could he be trusted to bring her home on time? In his language, actions and decisions, would he be a decent guy?

Decency mattered to me as a dad, and decency matters to Americans. We take note of the person who pays their debts. . . When the husband honors his wedding vows, when the teacher makes time for the struggling student, when the employee refuses to gossip about her co-worker, when the losing team congratulates the winning team, we can characterize their behavior as decent.

We appreciate decency. We applaud decency. We teach decency. We seek to develop decency.

So why isn’t decency doing better in the presidential race?

The leading Republican candidate to be the next leader of the free world would not pass my decency interview.

I don’t know Mr. Trump. But I’ve been chagrined at his antics. He ridiculed a war hero. He made a mockery of a reporter’s menstrual cycle. He made fun of a disabled reporter. . . He routinely calls people “stupid” and “dummy.”

Such insensitivities wouldn’t be acceptable even for a middle school student body election. But for the Oval Office? And to do so while brandishing a Bible and boasting of his Christian faith?

LOL. You might note that Ted Cruz is not mentioned in the article. Why do you feel the only way you can defend your choice is to attack others?

I heard Beck or Rush or Hannity talking about Lucado with respect to the election in the last couple of days. So his mention brought it to mind.

What does it say about someone that they have dozens of links to their vanity posts on their home page? A little full of ourselves, are we?

The links to my vanities are so that I can find them again. Putting them on my home page means I won't forget where I put the master list.

“So instead of voting for a whoremaster, you’ve decided to vote for a whoremaster, and now you are scolding people for voting for a whoremaster?”

That’s like one of those mirrors in the store fitting room.

Nope, just this one. I read his books until I realized he was a writer I should ignore. Oh, there are a few other so called ministers I ignore. But, there are many out there who teach from the Bible.

Rubios sht-brds opened this can of worms ....but it keeps getting deeper....he AND she Cruz are ......not “puritans”....thats for sure.

Wow....sad really he would have made a great v.p.....practiced in the art of snivling...could have kept the other washinton snivelers busy....while Trump does imortant stuff....like meeting w world leaders with his wife who speaks most ALL their languages....

Oh well there are plenty of other snivelers around I guess.

I did not see the latter comment, but I did see Cruz pushing out his groin while he was on camera. It looked bizarre and I thought maybe the ugly cowboy boots made his back hurt and he was stretching his back, but he looked to be bumping and grinding, not stretching . It grossed me out at the time, but it fits his horny pattern of behavior.

It depends, does the guy make his living at being an actor, or has he already made millions by being a smart and savvy business man? I’d say that’s different. Also, does he make good movies as his hobby? I mean at least for me it would be way easier to swallow Trump if he didn’t do reality TV and pro wrestling, something he obviously didn’t need to do, but did because he digs stuff like that.

In any case, at least movies have the potential to be good, right? I’m not sure about reality TV and pro wrestling. I
guess there are folks who dig them.

Like I said, I think they all are probably very weird and strange people.

America doesn’t need a saint for POTUS, we’re not electing a Pope. Apparently, we already have plenty of saints, whose perfect morals and character qualify them to be in the ‘judging others’ business. The reality is, nobody’s perfect and except for the ‘decency police’ and their self-righteous attitudes toward others. I’m voting for Trump, judge away.

Please quote where they claimed to be puritans.

I recall it was your guy who said he, himself was the greatest Christian ever.

I can answer that Texans for Cruz are people that are, egotistical, obnoxious, braggadocio, and think that just because Cruz is from Texas they should support him,no matter how sleazy and unqualified he is. They also think that Texas in the only state in the union. Normal Texans do not think that way, they have pride, but not wacko over the top pride.

One father's definition of "decency," knocks heads with this grandmother's definition of the same word and I reckon that's what makes the world of politics go round.

Maybe the Pastor ought to stick to preaching?

Do you read the article? Sometimes that helps before posting. The author was asking for some decency in public discourse. Not sure why that makes him a pussy.

You left off the correct answer from you little quiz. The correct answer is:

F=Trump is not a Christian or a conservative, and is playing his followers for fools.

Not sure if Trump is a pussy. But judging from the way he doctorates everything in that Liberace gilded whorehouse style, my guess is Trump is a little “special”.
