An international research team has published a study discussing the possibility and consequences of a 'superflare' erupting from our parent star
If a superflare erupted from the Sun , experts have predicted it will have a "devastating" effect on the Earth.
It could break down radio communication, damage power supplies across the planet and threaten the stability of our atmosphere.
And, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Communications , the possibility is not as far-fetched as scientists first thought.
"We certainly did not expect to find superflare stars with magnetic fields as weak as the magnetic fields on the Sun," said Christoffer Karoff from Aarhus University in Denmark.

Yep.
That’s right.
I would disagree with that, where would the atmosphere go? The planet's exosphere is a constant and not a bubble that would burst when penetrated.......
The molecular weight of all the atmospheric elements is what keeps it surrounding this planet instead of flying off into space........
And gun grabbers trying to find guns for protection.
I plan on utilize the wasted power of millenials, harnessed to my wagon and treadmill electricity generator, kinda similar to TWD when they use the zombies for their own ends.
Don’t watch the program but is excellent idea for an otherwise useless product. Perhaps if you hang some sort of tech device that looks like it might work in front of them just out of reach they will go faster?
Just viewed the last 2 minutes of Knowing.
It was pretty awesome, plus Nicholas Cage dies!
We’re gun grabbers too. We grab all the guns we can for our use and enjoyment. When things go south the libs won’t have any to grab.
Were gun grabbers too. We grab all the guns we can for our use and enjoyment. When things go south the libs wont have any to grab.
Excellent points!
“Were gun grabbers too”.
Love it!
Didn’t read it.
Enjoyed the movie until the big reveal, then had a big “uh...WUT? like, major non-sequitur here”, then enjoyed the climax while wondering “how the he11 did we get from there to here?”.
We’re all gonna die!
Someday
I think they added the whole “Aliens or Angels” thing to give some existential meaning to the end of the world.
Don’t forget to grab some ammo too. BLOAT.
You got it.
We get hit by one of these thing about every 150 years on average, and we are overdue for the next one. We nearly got slammed in 2013.
This actually ties into us “Preppers” for we have discussed this type of event/s leading to a total “grid down” sceriero.
If that were the only result, it would not be a problem. Unfortunately, civilization could fall apart in our country after and EMP.
Think about all that you do in a single day that involves electronics — pumping gas— heck, driving your car unless it’s an antique— buying groceries. Computer destruction means no electricity, no communications, no way to contact policemen or any emergency services. The list can go on and on.
Good point. But perhaps they will be struck dumb by the shock of it all. We can hope.
Yipes!
