During a presidential election campaign, candidates tend to dumb down the issues, delivering sound bites instead of nuanced policy prescriptions. Thats bad enough, but its even worse when candidates completely ignore looming challenges.
Such has been the case with Taiwan. Despite the fact that Taiwan is a major flashpoint for U.S.-China relations and the situation there is getting tense, Taiwan has been mentioned only once so far in the nineteen Republican and Democratic primary debates.
Politically speaking, the lack of discussion on Taiwan is understandable. Although in the long run Chinas rise presents the most critical challenge to U.S. national interests, today terrorism and ISIS loom much larger in the minds of most Americans.
But with China flexing its muscles in the South China Sea and renewed uncertainty about the future of its relationship with Taiwan, the next president of the United States wont have the luxury of ignoring China. Taiwan may not be the primary foreign policy issue of the campaign, but generating more debate about how the United States should respond to China/Taiwan issues is imperative for U.S. national security in the long run.

Those must have been reliable White Horse Souses!
...or, considering it is Taiwan (and therefore, China), and Hillary, we're talking about, maybe it's more like
You are a great American!
When I read the headline that was exactly my reaction. How about letting the world take care of itself and worry about America for a change. Although - do you want these globullists polluting America by traveling to all the great places here?
Bill Clinton got through his Presidency with “not knowing” what he’d do should Taiwan be threatened.
+1
I have friends in Taiwan and they are fine. This sounds like Kasich crap.
It’s not tipping over and capsizing is it?
something like 15% of Taiwan’s population now lives in China, doing business, marrying locals, going to school, etc...
China is playing a very long game, bringing Taiwan every closer to them via trade, investment, economics, tourism, immigration - while at the same time isolating their government diplomatically.
China does not need to invade.
