Are you saying it takes a democrat to beat a democrat?

As a Trump supporter, I would like to say that your question doesn’t make a damn bit of sense.

Cruz WILL beat Trump in the primaries. All it takes is for Rubio to suspend his campaign.

First, Cruz could destroy Trump head-to-head. Right now, the not-Trump vote is being split 3 ways, obscuring the fact that Trump is only getting 32% of the popular vote, and even worse if you consider that Trump is sucking wind in the caucuses which don’t impact the popular vote much.

Second, Trump is pretending to be a conservative. Hillary and Bernie can’t. Every mainstream-media “attack” on Trump attacks him for stating conservative opinions, not liberal ones.

as a cruz supporter i think the number of democratic supporters of trump in the open primaries tells a big deal about the candidate. now, in a general election, does it mean that all of them will stick with trump... i don’t know, i don’t expect it.

most cruz supporters will back trump in the general, i cannot say the same for trump supporters who may pull their support for a third party run.

just my humble opinion

Cruz wont be running against a Democrat. He (or Trump) will be running against a Socialist and/or Marxist.

You want Cruz supporters to not vote for someone who has fought for the Constitution, but instead vote for someone who has supported almost everything they’re against?

Easy answer.

Right now there are 3 Republicans vs. 1 Democrat (your premise). Once it is a 1 on 1 it s over for Trump.

Example go look at the latest poll from Maryland (RCP)
Trump 34, Cruz 25, Kasich 18, Rubio 14

74% of Rubio and Kasich supporters got to Cruz 14% to Trump according to the latest ABC poll.

That would make the Maryland poll (not exactly a Cruz stronghold) Cruz 49 Trump 38.

Game Over.

Because he won’t be running against other republicans in the general...

You’re conflating two different races.

One on one against Hillary even poor old Rubio does better than Trump. It is not going to be a cakewalk for him in the general.

Just me, but Cruz screwed up when he brought Neil Bush into his campaign, voiding any and all claims to not being part of the GOP Establishment.

I’d still like to see him in the Supreme Court but I do not want to see him as President.

Trump is an opportunist saying whatever it takes to use easily-fooled Conservatives (who keep getting people elected only to get stabbed again and again) to possibly gain the most powerful seat on earth. Nobody knows what he actually will do, and yet the Faith is strong in many here. He also won’t beat Hillary because they poll about even, and yet he consistently pulls in ten points fewer vote leads than predicted. See my large cited posts listing the numbers.

The majority of Republicans have been rejecting Trump, but they have been divided among all the alternatives, so Trump has won primaries with pluralities. When the party can unite behind one Not-Trump, that candidate will do much better against Hillary than will Trump, the most disliked politician across America, the one with the highest unfavorable ratings ever recorded.
