My little cat Kefira died this afternoon at 5:15 p.m.
3/9/16 | Me, Myself, & I

Posted on 03/09/2016 4:59:50 PM PST by EinNYC

I regret to inform my dear fellow FReepers, who have been so supportive of me through Kefira's illness, that she passed away at home today at 5:15 p.m. I came home from school and administered the liquid vitamins the vet told me to give her. A few minutes later, I put some of her prescription A/D canned food in the force feeding syringe the vet gave me last night and attempted to get about an inch or so of the food in her mouth. She struggled, urinated, and drooled, spitting out the food. Then I let go of her scruff and she lay on my bed, unmoving. Her pupils were dilated and she wasn't blinking or breathing. I feared she had died. I called my vet's office and they told me they'd stay open for me. Meanwhile, my friend Gitty had called me right after and I told her I was afraid Kefira had died. Within 5 minutes, Gitty and her daughter (also a friend of mine) were knocking at my door. They helped me clean the particles of canned food from Kefira's paws so that she would be clean. Simi (the daughter) gently wrapped Kefira in a towel and we put her in a large tote bag to take her to the vet's office. They ascertained she had indeed passed, and I made arrangements for her to be cremated.

I know that I am in shock, physically. I did not want the last 60 seconds of Kefira's life to be struggling to keep me from putting food in her mouth. My 2 friends swore to me that she knew I was trying to help me, and that it was her time to go. I did notice that when I came home, she was trying to hide on the other side of my bed, on the floor, which was not characteristic of her at all. My vet said she must have realized it was her time and that animals very often hide at that time. She also assured me that Kefira knew I loved her dearly.

Thank you all sincerely for your support. I am just in little pieces right now, and poor Bijou, Kefira's Maine Coon pal, is wondering where her friend is. When I find the right one, I will get Bijou a new little friend.

It's always tough.

I lost my 14 year-old lady feline best friend 3 wks ago. She was a very special cat and I miss her greatly.

I tried everything I could with the help of the vet to prolong her life, but it was not to be.

One thought has been a comfort....that is, our animal friends never worry about their lives and deaths, either 'now' or in the abstract, they simply accept it.

God willing, we will hold them in our hearts and be thankful for the good times shared.

My heart goes out to you and your precious kitty. I can indeed relate. I lost two in as many years back in 2005 and 2006. Didn't intend to but took in a stray, now we've been together 10 years.

I don't have any words of wiscdom to get over these losses. Just that I am so sorry. Just remember the happiness and comfort she has brought you.

I hope there is a kitty heaven.

I’m very sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved cat, I know it’s a very hard thing to go through. Our pets are in Heaven waiting for the day that we will be reunited with them and we will be with them forever.

So sorry...I know all too well how hard this is.

Probably sounds a little silly but I just hope we get to see our animals in heaven.

I know how you feel. We lost our big Tortoiseshell kitty, Patches, last June.

Take Care.

We have been thru this many times. It breaks your heart over & over again. You gave your baby Kefira a wonderful forever home. You did everything right. Thinking of you. Sending love from one animal lover to another.

Not silly at all. Nothing would make me happier.

Thank you for rescuing the kitty. I’m positive he knew you loved him. I think all animals have an instinct to understand those kinds of things.

Five of our six were feral and being threatened by raccoons and coyotes. We had them all fixed and they’re living the good life now, and all are indoor kitties.

Don't know if you know Freeper Lazamataz, but do a search for his home page.

He has a posting on there about the death of his cat, named Cathy, very beautifully written...perhaps it will help you with some closure.

The loss of a pet can be devastating.

The loss of one of my beloved Pit Bulls or the loss of my old Rhodesian Ridgeback, although I know it is inevitable, will surely break my heart.

I think it has to do with the helplessness of domesticated animals that we have taken into our hearts and homes, whose lives...and deaths are our responsibility.

You are not alone in your grief, it is a normal thing.

sorry for your loss but you know what?,, there is a little kitty just waiting for you to come rescue it from the animal shelter.. just walk in there and wait for one to catch your heart.. I always do that when I lose a kitty and I end up not depressed anymore because I’m so busy getting to know my new friend

A book that really helped my husband when we lost our last cat is, “Cold Noses At The Pearly Gates”.

It’s a serious book discussing pets being in Heaven. Amazon sells it — and others with a similar focus.

The Rainbow Bridge. That just brought a gusher of tears to my eyes. I know your pain, far too intimately. If all things are possible with God, that bridge will be there when we pass, and your Kefira will be there to meet you, as all our loved ones, two-legged and four, shall be. My condolences and prayers.

I’ve lost a cat and a dog and I know the feeling....sometimes its their time, they let you know and nothing you can do about it.

My condolences on the loss of your cat Kefira.

You’re so right! I know from the Bible that if there are horses, there are kitties. Including all of mine. And dogs, too, for the dog lovers. Or else how could God “wipe all tears from our eyes”?

I’m so sorry, dear. You were doing your best for her and she knew it. They always do.

When mine had to leave me (3 of them over 9 years, all near the age of 20), I know they were carried to Heaven by a great company of angel kitties who had gone on before, and there must have been a great fluttering of tiny wings to be heard. Later I could feel the wings in my heart. You will, too.

God bless and comfort you in your sorrow.
