A ghastly pall has descended over U.S. politics. Barring a minor miracle, Donald Trump really will be running against Hillary Clinton to be president.
The world is looking on in slack-jawed horror. Never in our lifetime has a man so unsuitable for office got so near the White House. Almost no one saw it coming certainly not the Republican establishment, and least of all the pundits, whove been reassuring us for months that this clownish, vulgar reality-TV star would never, ever get near the nomination.
How could this happen? New Yorker editor David Remnick, who is in a state of shock, blames the people. As he told Politico, Mr. Trumps success reflects an ugliness that appeals to every worst instinct in America. Nicholas Kristof, the New York Times columnist, says Mr. Trump has shrewdly manipulated the news media.
But its not entirely the peoples fault, or the medias fault. The Republican establishment has been out of touch for years. It offers a brand of conservatism that people dont care about or else have actively rejected. Unlike their leaders, most Republican voters dont care all that much about constitutional purity. Many of them are are middle-class or lower. They dont want tax cuts for the rich. They want their health care and social security to be protected. They think theres too much uncontrolled immigration. Theyre tired of senseless foreign wars in far-off places where everybody hates the United States anyway. They care a lot less than party leaders if other people want to get abortions.

A ghastly pall has descended over U.S. politics. FU
And B0 is not totally unsuitable?
Oh dear.
The The Globe and Mail is having the vapors.
Margaret Wente is a conservative American-born Canadian columnist for Canada’s largest national daily newspaper, The Globe and Mail, and a director of the Energy Probe Research Foundation.
First it’s “clutching pearls”. Now it’s “Smelling Salts” and “having the vapours!” Ha ha....:0)
Commie lib heads are exploding all over the planet. They are starting to realize that the commie ‘RATS in this country are going to have to do a hell of a lot better than Clinton’s wife if they plan on beating Trump.

Hey, she must be eligible, too
Maybe she should have run.
Margaret Wente must have been doing a Rip Van Winkle for the past 7 years.
Never in our lifetime has a man so unsuitable for office got so near the White House.
This sentence should have (an still should) been applied to President Ovomit. NEVER in the course of US politics has so an inept and unworthy individual been elected to the highest office in the land!
At least Trump has some real-life experience. Maybe the author thinks Trump is just not as “cool” as Obama?
Sane thing they did to Reagan. I was there. All the time. Just an actor, not qualified, WW3, Dunce. etc.
It isn’t so much that liberals are ignorant. It’s just that they know so many things that aren’t so.
Passes you smelling salts andca sign that says...
Wake up and smell the roses, it’s a Trumptastic day!!
In 2012 Wente was found to have plagiarized on a number of occasions. She was suspended from writing her column, but later reinstated.
Incidents of plagiarism
In September 2012, Wente was found to have committed plagiarism by Carol Wainio, a blogger and artist who accused Wente of lifting quotes and rewording passages from published sources without credit.[4]
]Wainio documents on her blog, Media Culpa, a series of columns and articles published from 2009 to 2012, which plagiarize sources including the Ottawa Citizen, the New York Times and Foreign Affairs.[5][6]
On 21 September 2012, the Globe and Mail’s public editor addressed the allegations, conceding that “there appears to be some truth to the accusations but not on every charge.”[7]
The Globe and Mail subsequently took unspecified punitive actions against Wente for a column written in 2009. Editor John Stackhouse acknowledged that “the journalism in this instance did not meet the standards of The Globe and Mail,” noting that the work in question was “unacceptable.”
However, Wente continued to write for the Globe and Mail.[8] Wente herself wrote a column to defend herself against accusations of being a “serial plagiarist” but acknowledged she was “extremely careless”.[9]
She took a break from writing her column for a week. On 11 October she resumed with a column explaining her actions and offered an apology.[10]
She was also suspended from CBC Radio where she appeared as a biweekly media panelist on the program Q due to her not meeting the CBC’s journalistic standards as a result of the 2009 incident.[11]

Send the photographer out to get a picture of that pall...
“But its not entirely the peoples fault...”
Uh, sure it is. It’s called voting the same idiots into congress.
Apparently we have reverted to Victorian times. I knew retro was in, but that’s taking it a bit too far!
We need to send her a collective “Piss off” notice. Wait a minute, she moved to Canada. That’s a start in the right direction. With apologies to real Canadians of course.
