While co-hosting his KRLA 870 AM and KTIE 590 AM radio shows in Southern California, Shapiro said:
"As you know, Ive been agonizing on air over whether I would ever vote for Donald Trump. And Im starting to come down firmly in the #NeverTrump camp. I will never vote for this man. I will not pull the lever for this man. I will not pull the lever for him in a general election or in a primary. Its not going to happen. And the reason is that if conservatives never say no at some point, then theyre never going to have the opportunity to say yes. Because the logic of the Republican Party is, the conservatives are going to be forced to vote for whomever we choose, that whomever we put out there, Sen. John McCain or Mitt Romney or Donald Trump, were going to put that person out there and were just going to make you vote for that person because theyre better than Hillary Clinton, or better than Barack Obama. If you dont say no at some point, gang, youre never going to get a nominee to whom you can actually proudly stand up and say yes. Youre always going to be the sucker, because they can just take your vote for granted."
Asked later in the show about the possibility of Hillary being elected if conservatives failed to show up for Trump, Shapiro stated:
"Am I willing to risk a Hillary presidency not to vote for Trump? The answer is yes."

“Oh, good grief”
I agree
That seems to be a very anti-Semitic comment——not even taking into account that some readers here on this forum may very well be conservative Jews.
And as I read through this thread I read vulgar language ( carefully shielded with capital letters and dashes for vowels) and-—on this forum, (described as “God-fearing”), and on this thread there are even vulgar pictures allowed to stand uncorrected.
Ok, Ben, we knew it why you would never vote for Trump, this is the 2345 times you have said it. We are not interested, go get a life!
They just want an establishment candidate, Democrat or Republican, who will keep selling America out to the Oligarchs.
Yes, there seem to be two types of voters in the GOP who can’t pull the lever for Trump.
The first is the one who is so arrogant that they are put off by the “ridiculous things Trump says”. To me these people are simple noble elites. They have always taken care of their own and resent someone crashing their party.
(To H with them)
The second group are the “Pure” conservatives. I have watched the pure group lose election after election. I am not (I guess) a pure conservative either. But I am pleased to see that some of the pure group is willing to go with Trump because he has the chance to re-align the party and stop the cash for donors crony capitalism that will finish us if we don’t finish it first. Sorry but Cruz is this pure conservative this time, and I wish him a position in a Trump administration, but if the tables were turned, I know Cruz would not have Trump in his administration (even though he joked that he knew who could build the wall.)
A lot of people spouting this approach on FR for years (no more lesser of evils) now want us to accept the RINO Trump as a so-called lesser of evils. The shoe is on other foot now.
I don’t disagree. Let me get back to you
“Am I willing to risk a Hillary presidency not to vote for Trump? The answer is yes.”
Then you (ben WHO? NEVER heard of HER)
ARE NOT a REAL CONSERVATIVE, just ANOTHER closet demoRAT.
But Romney and McCain were okay?
Shapiro’s a fool.
That comment is fairly mild compared to what Ben Shapiro receives from Trump supporters on twitter. Many of those comments contain a word that begins with “k” and ends in “e.”
Maybe start by realising that Trump is divisive because of his appalling lack of conservative credibility. Then understand that many of us will simply not be fooled by this charlatan. Then decide if you think he can still get elected with a fair percentage of lifelong conservatives falling into the Never Trump camp.
If you think he can get elected, roll the dice and keep supporting him. If you think there is real risk, support someone else, because people in the Never Trump camp are NOT going to line up behind this fraud.
Don’t worry, though. When he fails in the general, we’ll be here to tell you “I told you so.”
Isn’t that the point? We’ve been asked twice now to pull the lever for candidates we care embarrassed by. Now you want us to do it again?
No Thanks. I’ll write in Cruz with good conscience so you can’t lord a vote for Trump over me later when he goes turbo John Roberts with his betrayal of conservatism.
Read the article. He's saying the opposite.
Whether he really would have said the same thing in 2008 or 2012 I don't know, but his message is:
If you dont say no at some point, gang, youre never going to get a nominee to whom you can actually proudly stand up and say yes. Youre always going to be the sucker, because they can just take your vote for granted.
I think he's wrong, though. If you can only vote for people you agree with 100% you're not going to be voting much and won't have a say in what happens in the country.
Unless he said it in the past he has zero credibility.
Of course, you say "no" by not voting for Rockefeller or Bush in the primary.
If you bail on them in the general, their wing of the party won't support your candidate if he manages to get nominated.
So, no Ronald Reagan.
And if we dont say no to Donald Trump now, we will continue drifting ever further left, diluting conservatism into the vacillating, demagogic absurdity of Trumpism. Conservatism will become the crypto-racist, pseudo-strong, quasi-tyrannical, toxic brew leftists have always accused it of being.
Talking that way is only going to convince more people out there to vote for Trump. To persuade people you have to keep your hate under control. Burn your bridges like this and they won't be there for others to cross over to you when you need them on your side.
Ben Shapiro explains why I have no interest in his columns.
I bet Little Ben would happily vote for RINO’s Rubio & Kasich.
I bet he voted for Romney & McCain.
Hypocrite.
I would love to debate him. In the meanwhile, I would suggest that my definitions are correct, and provide a formula for winning, not "eating our own."
Exactly. He just wants Hillary to win.
Politics is a crap shoot every day. Honest men usually stay away from it. Many years ago, there was a Texas state senior who was able and honest. People tried and tried to get him to run for governor, and he would have won. Able, honest, articulate and charming in a very un-johnson way. He refused. Told a friend on mine that he hated to offend by turning away bribes. And they came every day, subtly and openly. Finally he quit and got rich through his law practice. His son, I hear, is just like him. Never ran for office.
