Ted Cruz says stopping Donald Trump at a brokered convention would lead to a 'revolt' ...

Ted Cruz has rejected the idea of stopping Donald Trump's presidential campaign at a brokered convention, saying the move would lead to a 'revolt' among voters.

...

Cruz likely has his own reasons for wanting to avoid a brokered convention, however, as it is unlikely that he would receive the backing of many superdelegates, once released from the candidate they are now tied to.

...

In the case of a brokered convention, Rubio and Kasich likely have the most to gain - and unsurprisingly they are the two candidates thought to be preparing for just such an event.

I would have thought they both appeal to the Cuban and other Hispanic population?

How did Rubio do in TX? Hispanic media is HQ’d in Miami. I’m sure they’ll be pulling out the stops for local boy Marco Amnestio.

I am afraid you are quite correct.

They are forcing Cruz on TRUMP, and Cruz is a climber from hell on the North American Union and open borders connections and the Goldman Sachs agenda.

I hate what is happening. TRUMP just may tell them all to go butt a stump.

I hope he picks his own candidate. Our future depends on it. He needs to do it now and go into convention with a Jeff Sessions ticket, or someone huge on national security and foreign affairs.

There are rifts among the Hispanic groups. Cubans tend to not care so much for Mexicans and vice versa. It's not an obvious thing to outsiders, but it comes to the fore in elections from time to time.

Our country has gone to hell

First true thing you've said in the thread. Reason: the media, hollywood, the Democrats and the GOP. All of them are enemies of America. They pretend that polite discussion of issues is adequate to keep the rabble (us) in line. But it's not. They all must die (politically speaking). The way to kill them off is scorched earth like Trump is doing. If he didn't someone else would have to. Or we would just keep spiraling into decay and irrelevance.

Were it not for Trump, the most conservative candidate, Cruz, would be in second or third place behind a couple of establishment candidates. Instead Trump has stomped through the media, upended the politically correct dialog and inspired the rabble (that's us). That could still change and would if the GOP steals the primary. But for now it is working. We are ahead about 5 to 1 in independent and conservative delegate count.

Let me see. Candidates #3 and #6 (Kasich is only #4 because Carson and Bush dropped out) are getting together to win a brokered convention. How is *that* going to work?

I see one candidate who ****might**** get 75% of the delegates to accept him and support him as the nominee at a brokered convention and that is Dr. Ben Carson. He is the “outsider” that would prevent most Trump and Cruz supporters from bolting and he’s civil rather than bombastic which could get the GOPe to accept him as “better than” Trump or Cruz.

Believe me, a brokered convention goes nowhere if the GOPe winds up forcing Mitt or Jeb or Kasich or any of a dozen in their cabal on the Trump and Cruz delegates.

Besides Carson, the only one I can see who might appeal to both sides of a brokered convention is Jeff Sessions.

Boy, do you have that RIGHT! Cruz is serpent treacherous and smart.

He depends on rubes to and the cults of the Religious Right to succeed at being a colossal climber. It is so crystal clear it could blind the eyes.

Conservatives don’t want to admit it but at this point Cruz is 100% on board with the GOPe

If he's on board why doesn't the GOPe rally to him as the most credible alternative to Trump? Instead they're backing Rubio, who has no chance, or advocating a floor fight at the convention, which won't go well for Cruz.

Agreed. With NY and NJ coming up, there is no way Cruz wins 70% of the delegates. The only one with a path to the needed number is Trump. If it is a brokered convention, Trump will have 1100 delegates or more and a huge edge in the number of people who voted for him. If the GOPe tries to steal the nomination from Trump, there will be Hell to pay and that is putting it mildly.

That’s what I have been trying to say. If Trump has far and away the most delegates he will be the nom or the party will be destroyed. The political class is totally delusional. A brokered convention White Knight being Romney or Ryan? Totally insane idea.

Trump is the only national candidate. He’s the presumptive nominee until Cruz or Rubio win a neutral big state like Michigan or Illinois. Rubio couldn’t even win VA with the beltway and its suburbs!

Trump may pick Cruz for another position, doubt it would be for the V.P. Wonder what would happen if he did choose Cruz. The good thing would be it would force a decision on the natural born issue, and if Cruz lost out, I suppose a President Trump would just have to pick another V.P. It would not hinder his Presidency.

“Which may be why Cruz is going all out to win Florida. I’m guessing that if he loses to Trump in Florida that he drops out and endorses Trump.”

That would be the smart move IF Cruz wants to have a future on the national stage, not to mention if he cares about our country at least a smidgen more than himself.

Wants the anti establishment label? Either you’ve had your head in the sand the last 6 years, just starting following politics or hell I don’t know what to make of what you just said.

Guess you missed the last few years of hell Cruz has had to endure from the media his own party and the public? He was anti establishment during about the time Trump was supporting PP, giving donations to causes to take down the area Party and during the same time he expressed republican immigration stance was “mean spirited”

I believe you need to check the history books here

I don’t think you want to look at the history books. Former Bush admin official Ted Cruz was solidly GOP Establishment his ENTIRE LIFE up until the TEA revolution. Like other climbing and ambitious career politicians he self interestedly attached himself to our grass roots movement.

He’s been campaigning for POTUS since he arrived in the Senate. I was duped his beltway theater performances for many years but now I can see his careerism for what it is. Ted Cruz the man does not match the myth. Sorry.

Cruz, after he loses FL and OH, will begin to make up with The Donald and will be his veep.

I have thought this from eight months ago. This was all kabuki theater.

Been a while now and my memory is fading but it seems that a similar operation took place with Reagan and daddy Bush...Reagan and Bush were polar opposites on the campaign trail and I believed then and now that Reagan got conned into believing that he needed Bush to win the Carter race and very reluctantly picked Bush as his running mate...

“It is a legit means”

Perhaps “legit” under the “rules”, but IF the convention were to pick someone who was not one of the top delegate getters, then that would be the end of the GOP(e), not to mention handing the election to Hillary (as you point out due to the “betrayal factor”).

First of all, policy weeds in a primary are a trap TRUMP is not walking into.

Cruz hides comfortably in the printed word and policy weeds so he can show off his legalese and debate skills, and ability to avoid taking a damn stand on anything, by schlonging action and obfuscating with his word machine.

TRUMP puts policy on his website and leaves it there. TRUMP spends his precious time speaking to the times, and to the people in REBELLION, while nicely ignoring the Cruz/Hillary brain games and the endless, ever changing policy weeds, for which, obviously, we are in no mood anymore!

We are no longer CONSERVATIVES! That word has been confiscated by the Establishment and now EVERYBODY is conservative.

TRUMP supporters are the LAST AMERICAN RESISTANCE, dope.
