A small town bakery owned by a Christian family is under siege after they declined to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple.
Edie and David Delorme own the Kern's Bake Shop in Longview, Texas.
The Delormes are also devout Christians and they run their bakery according to the tenets of their religious beliefs.
That became a problem on Feb. 17 when Ben Valencia and Luis Marmolejo requested the bakers make a cake for their upcoming wedding.
She offered to provide the gay couple with a list of bakeries that would meet their needs, but she said the men simply walked out of the store.
A few days later she received a telephone call from the local newspaper. The gay couple had gone public and had accused the Delorme family of discrimination.
Marmolejo told the newspaper he couldn't understand why the couple just didn't violate their religious beliefs.
"I don't see how making a cake for somebody is going to compromise your beliefs," he said.
Soon after the story was published, the Delormes were overwhelmed with a number of threats against the business and their family. Angry activists posted derogatory reviews on Yelp and other social networking platforms.
"See you in Hell, lady," read one angry message. "Racist criminals."
"This business is run by a homophobic piece of (expletive)," another message read.
So far, no formal charges or complaints have been filed against the Christian couple but should that happen, First Liberty said they are prepared to defend the bakery.
"We just want equal rights," David told me. "We want to be treated equally."
Mr. Delmore raises a pretty good point. Shouldn't Christian Americans have the same rights and privileges as LGBT Americans?

You don’t ‘decline’ these. You ask “When do you need this?” Get the date and then say “I can’t make that date.” and leave it at that.
WE have a lot of Freepers who think homosexuality is no big deal.
Rubio will be their candidate after either Cruz or Trump drop out.
Publish the name/address of the accisers and the attirney.
Make the them sweat.
A lot.
It is long past time for ...shall we say...negative feedback.
Oops, attorney. Darned iPad.
i thought a PRIVATE business HAD the right to refuse service to ANYONE...
apparently voicing your OPINION relating to a POLITICALLY PROTECTED GROUP...
muslims, gays, thugs.... IS NOW A CRIME....
needs to be corrected.....
A GOVERNMENT OR A GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIZED BUSINESS MAY BE DIFFERENT....AND THEN THE QUESTION IS ....why is government in a business in the first place...???
HEALTHCARE is a PRIME EXAMPLE.....
the nuns situation comes to mind...
PUTTING ALL ELSE ASIDE
THER E ARE 100 MILLION CHRISTIAN REGISTERD VOTERS WHO IF THEY GOT ORGANIZED COULD STRAIGHTEN THINGS OUT.....
and that is why LIBTARDS ATTACK CHRISTIANS...... they fear the latent power...
We’re not talking about gays, we’re talking about the government forcing people to do things that go against their consciences (make a cake with a gay-wedding theme).
The only candidate who is cool with that is Kasich, who says he doesn’t see the problem - “if somebody asks for a cupcake, bake them a cupcake.”
Bakers bake cupcakes for everybody and don’t care who buys them or serves them. But what they do object to is being forced to produce something bearing a message, which Kasich ignores.
I betcha that Trump is going to ask Kasich to be his VP and this is the only reason Kasich has stayed in the race this long.
But Macys can refuse to sell Trump ties? WTF???
Why is it that many of the same people who want to prevent the government from forcing Apple to write software they don’t agree with to break the password on a phone, want to force a baker to write words on a cake that he doesn’t agree with.
How about cakes that say “AIDS kills fags”.
Harassing Christians should be a hate crime, they are doing this on purpose.
This is Self Hate inspired by Christian Beliefs that they can’t shake. They are lashing out.
Someone should tell them, you aren’t hurting God, you can’t. All you are doing is hating.
“You will be made to care.”
I guess it depends on what message...
As I’ve often said, go ahead and bake them their cake. Make it one they and their guests will never forget.
Macy’s is a private business that doesn’t have to sell something that supports a political candidate.
These bakeries are private businesses that are being forced to make a statement, at least tacitly, supporting something that is against the moral principles of their owners.
If all the bakery said was “we’re busy, here’s a list of other bakeries” and left it at that, then those two gaystapo guys haven’t anything to go on.
And that would be happening because homosexuals are at their core narcissistic, and organize politically to demand to be respected and catered to in special ways.
It absolutely is the exact same issue, because when you put them in office (whether as an executive, legislator, or Judge) then you get this. So to support one is to cause the next.
You’re welcome.
Is there anyone who believes that this gay "couple" just happened to pick this one bakery at random?
Unfortunately, too many judges and lawyers are eager to go along with this targeted bullying of Christians. No business has any obligation to do business with anyone--it's that freedom of association thing usually considered to be a constitutional right.
