Vanity- question about much Cruz bashing on the debate thread
2-26-16

Posted on 02/26/2016 6:47:14 AM PST by InvisibleChurch

I understand Trump is a candidate who has taken the election cycle by storm and I understand his allure. IIRC, I thought Ted Cruz was the favorite candidate here on Free Republic because of his conservative views. What has happened that Cruz is a figure of derision here? I understand Jeb! and Rubio and other mains stream Republicans being poo-poo'ed. Is Cruz getting slammed merely because he is running against Trump? Last night's thread was like stumbling into an alternate Freeperverse. Another question is: If you weren't supporting Trump, would you support Cruz?

There are several dozen rabid Trump fans who are like that, but that's about it.

Per your article:

Compared to some of Trump's typical barrages against his opponents, which often include long-winded and humorous asides, his comments about Cruz on Friday were restrained and concrete.

Ok, so Trump used a couple solid facts against Cruz's positions. That's an "attack". Lol. Guess what, in politics, it's ok to question a candidates positions. It's ok to question Trump's positions, and his recent changes. Still, you are just playing dumb because you got your little feelers hurt over the fact that Cruz is losing.

I tried to be nice about it. And yet, it's us Trump supporters who are spewing anger and hatred and vitriol. Ok there sport.

Well in case you have just gotten back from the planet Uranus Ted Cruz has lost his luster of late. What with the Dirty trix in 3 primaries and outright lying about other candidates he kind of stabbed himself in the heart last night by getting behind the IRS and then announcing he would back Amnestio over Trump. So there’s not much left to love about Teddy.

Donald Trump threw the first punch and admitted it was because Cruz was rising in the polls. But he doesn’t have the intellect to make a rational argument against an opponent. He just calls names. Its pathetic really and it just makes me hurt for.this country that people would.consider him fit to be President

Trump’s intellect is fine, thank you.

He does the name calling because he knows that that’s what works in this environment.

And I disagree. Trump said he imagined he was going to have to go after Cruz soon. Cruz started the attacks, and then Trump escalated it in reply.

Yes, and that is precisely where we with this faulty Trump mania. I’m glad I’m old and won’t actually have to live through the worst of what is to come.

But my sweet grandchildren will - and as a result I have a sort of hatred for all the stupid, ignorant, diabolically blind Trump devotees who are leading our country and it’s people to a disaster dwarfing anything this world has seen.

Cruz endorsing Rubio over Trump didn’t help matters.

Nope, won’t support Cruz.

I am sure the donor class are thrilled with both Cruz and Rubio—tho Cruz had better figure out he is just being used==GOPe wants to take Rubio to the prom.

The debate** was bad enough, but his attack after the debate coupled with the Rubio endorsement was the last nail in the coffin.

**During the debate, I did not like the visual image of BOTH Cruz and Rubio turned towards Trump tag/teaming him. Yes, it did make for great TV Megyn, but I thought Cruz had more class—thought wrong.

Trump survived—I am sure he will do fine debating against one Democrat in a general.

I found an article that went against your assertion that Cruz started the attacks against Trump and asked you for an article that backs up your argument.

You failed to produce one, “sport.”

While you’re looking, see if you can find your integrity.

What has happened that Cruz is a figure of derision here? . . . If you weren't supporting Trump, would you support Cruz?

Cruz is my first choice, and Trump is second . I try to smooth over the Cruzer attacks on Trump and the Trumpster attacks on Cruz, and I try to point out the truth when unfair or personal attacks on either are posted. Both sides are far more at fault than reasonable people should be, which annoys me because I believe the vast majority of Trump's 70%-ish support on FR would support Cruz as their top choice if Trump imploded (VERY unlikely) and the reverse if Trump keeps the lead.

great graphic. I think it boils down to Trump being the other side of the Obama coin. I do not mean that in any positive way.

It’s more the case that certain posters on either side use facts and citations to discuss issues, but other posters use personal attacks and withering snobbery towards the supporters of the other guy. These latter kinds of posts tend to receive the same nastiness in return, drowning out sensible discussion.
