Spud-only diet a mash hit for Mr Potato Head
An Australian man who plans to eat nothing but potatoes for an entire year said Tuesday that despite his strange diet he was not only feeling better, but surprisingly enjoying his meals.
Unlike Matt Damon's character in "The Martian", who is stranded on the Red Planet with little else to eat, Andrew Taylor, 35, made a deliberate decision to eat only the starchy staple for 12 months, to break what he termed his "food addiction".
While addicts can go "cold turkey" on their vice, such as alcohol or cigarettes, it is impossible to do so with food, so Taylor settled on making his diet as boring as possible.
"The next best thing was to find one thing that sustained me healthily," he told AFP, saying that besides potatoes, he also considered mangoes, bananas and watermelon.
Man does not live by...
Hopefully he lives in Idaho.
Who cares...Our pioneers did it...
This idea sounds half-baked.
He might want to include tomatoes in his diet. I think he’ll need some ketchup somewhere along the way.
just sayin’ . . .
Does he want fries with that?
Is that you, Dan?
He’s opening himself up to some pretty nasty vitamin deficiency diseases.
“I think heâll need some ketchup somewhere along the way.”
Yuk !
Butter,butter,butter.
.
"You know what they say, you are what you eat!"
I did something like this with a nutrient shake fast a few years ago.
I went back and forth between ‘starving’ and ‘it’s so nice not to have to worry about food for awhile’.
I’m weird, with mashed potatoes I need pepper, but with French fries I need salt.
I have always thought that was strange.
Oh well. this diet sounds like a an act penance or something.
I mean if he wants a bland diet, try boiled chicken and absolutely no seasoning of any kind. Now that’s bland.
Australia, actually. But throw in eggs (protein), ice cream (dairy) and ketchup (flavoring) and you’ve got a reasonably well-balanced diet. He can wash it down with a couple of beers if he needs to include the grain group.
I actually thought about this a long time ago, being a huge potato fan. No vitamin B12. Long term, that’ll make you go crazy, perhaps irreversibly so. Throw in a steak, and a beer, maybe, and then you’re good to go.
It’s actually a healthful diet, at least for a while.
The gut bugs love it.

Potatotes - is that a potato-peyote hybrid?
