Trump: I 'Like' Obamacare's Individual Mandate

7:48 AM, Feb 19, 2016 | By Jeffrey H. Anderson

The most unpopular part of Obamacare now has a champion in the Republican presidential field. Via the Right Scoop, Donald Trump was asked on Thursday night by CNN's Anderson Cooper, "If…there's no mandate for everybody to have insurance, what's to—why would an insurance company not have a preexisting—insure somebody with a preexisting condition?" Trump replied, "Well, I like the mandate. Okay, so here's where I'm a little bit different. I don't want people dying on the streets. And I say this all the time."

Well, that's certainly "a little bit different"—in fact, it's hard to get a lot more "different" than to run for president as a Republican and support the hated cornerstone of President Obama's signature legislation. This "mandate for everybody to have insurance" is, of course, the unprecedented requirement that, for the first time in the more than 200 years of United States history, private American citizens must buy a product or service of the federal government's choosing merely as a condition of living in their own country.

It’s no use. Trump chumps are going to vote for him no matter how liberal he is.

I pray that Trumpbots’ ears are opened to what Trump is saying. I pray that they come to their senses and reconsider the only viable, consistent conservative running. I pray that they join FR founder Jim Robinson, and thousands of other long-time FReepers, in supporting Ted Cruz in the primary.

The mandate should be structured as a tax credit instead of a penalty.

If you’re going to pay for indigent care, and you’re going to provide care before asking financial questions, then you need some incentive for people to have health insurance.

Yes, but as the sodomite army always graciously allows us, we reserve the right not to like it.

No, they’re not. The fact that Trump supports socialist healthcare needs to be proclaimed loudly and often. Let them who have ears to hear, hear ...

So we nominate Cruz ..and THEN the Democrats go all out on the natural born citizen thing. It doesn’t matter about obama’s birth just like obama filibustering conservative judges in the past .

Kasich expanded Medicare in Ohio in response to obamacare.”Conservative’ Roberts ruled obamacare legal.

What have we got to lose with a non-politician for a change?

You should be ashamed for posting half-truths:

Trump wants to secure the borders, enforce the law, end anchor babies, end sanctuary cities, build a wall, deport them all, secure the borders, secure the nation, including sending the refugees back!

No one is better at border security, national security than Trump.

Sounds pretty damn conservative to me.

Want to talk about cutting taxes, cutting spending, cutting regulations, cutting government, cutting cronyism, cutting corruption, growing the economy, putting our people back to work, making America great again?

Trump does. And he sounds pretty damn conservative to me.

Want to defend God, family, guns, country? Want to build the greatest military ever so no one dares mess with us?

Trump does. And he sounds pretty damn conservative to me.

Want to build a coalition including conservatives, capitalists, blue collar workers, veterans, gun owners, religious people, minorities, freedom-loving Americans of every stripe?

Trump does. And he’s doing it. And that sounds pretty damn conservative to me!

Reagan Revolution meet the Trump Revolution.

No excuses for the tone. None needed.

Trump favors forcing people to do things they disagree wholeheartedly with. Got it.

Again, my copy-pasting FRiend, I am not ashamed because I spoke the full truth.

Jim Robinson’s favorite candidate, the one he is going to vote for in the primary, is NOT DONALD TRUMP. It’s Ted Cruz.

@realDonaldTrump: I was asked about healthcare by Anderson Cooper & have been consistent- I will repeal all of #ObamaCare, including the mandate, period.

@realDonaldTrump: I was referring to a backstop for pre-existing conditions. I will eliminate the law, in its entirety, & replace it w/ something much better.

We really can not go back to people being excluded from insurance/health care due to pre-existing conditions.

But I think people with pre-existing conditions should be put on Medicaid and leave the free market of employer based insurance alone. I like his idea of opening state boundaries for insurance competition.
