Word For The Day, Thursday, 2/18/16
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
alacrity; noun
1.
cheerful readiness, promptness, or willingness: We accepted the invitation with alacrity.
2.
liveliness; briskness
Etymology: n.
mid-15c., from Latin alacritatem (nominative alacritas) "liveliness, ardor, eagerness," from alacer (genitive alacris) "cheerful, brisk, lively;" of uncertain origin, perhaps cognate with Gothic aljan "zeal," Old English ellen "courage, zeal, strength," Old High German ellian.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Thank you! The look on his face while he tripped over words was priceless-you’d have thought he’d just been ordered to muck out the Aegean stables with a gardening trowel...
Trump, like a lot of people, just knee-jerk reacted to excerpts of Scalia’s questioning on the subject.
I don’t want a president who knee-jerks like the common liberal to find offense in intellectual arguments.
Scalia wasn’t even agreeing necessarily, just doing his due diligence in understanding what an argument being presented to his court was all about.
If my chronology is correct, Mr. Trump released this statement not until after Father DeCelles’s writing:

While Jeb is by far not the best of the candidates, neither is he the worst. Chris Christie would be much worse than Jeb, as would Kasich. I'd say the Huckster is also worse than Jeb. Fortunately, Christie is already done and Jeb will probably soon be done, as will Kasich. Rubio probably soiled his bed by climbing into bed with the Gang of Eight; Other than that, he might have been a viable candidate.
I think Cruz is the most principled and most reliably conservative choice in the field; and I think he would choose a strict constitutionalist in the mold of Scalia for his appointments to the Supreme Court. I have zero confidence in ANY of the other candidates on either side to give us judicial appointments any better then the likes of Loretta Lynch. The idea of a democrat (whether the letter after his/her name is "D" or "R") appointing not only Scalia's replacement but potentially 3 more justices after that to the Supreme Court fills me with such despair that I honestly believe our Constitutional Republic is at risk of being lost forever. I only wish that were hyperbole.
Proof that not all women — oops, Vaginal-Americans — run to a candidate with alacrity:

I’m sure he was heartened by that.
I’m actually surprised to hear that Sarandon thinks at all-she epitomizes “dumb liberal” to me...
A ++++ vaginal Americans! Hahahahahahah!
Wise words.
LMAO. She’s still a ditz.
I hear you.
BTW, I am headed to the Dugout soon. That was where we met.
Thank you for sharing-I did not know it had been on TV.
Thanks. I was knocking on doors when it happened. The nice lady who opened the door had been watching, and crying.
I will chime in here and say I will vote for Cruz in the primary because I think he is the most qualified and I agree with him more than anyone else in the running. I also don’t buy into the not likeable or not electable nonsense. That is just the media’s position and I have never taken their opinion as my own.
I have to agree.
That was very nice. He would have been proud.
i hope you are not saying that those who find him unlikeable have taken the media’s position as their own. I find him unlikeable as does my entire family and almost everyone i have spoken to. i am hardly someone who looks to the media for insights on decision making. fine if you like him, and if he’s the candidate, i will vote for him. Some refer to him as smug, smarmy etc. he’s all of that. And while he may wear it as a badge of honor that he doesn’t have a single senator endorsing him, it definitely feeds into the unlikeable meme. No, we don’t have to like our candidate personally, but if his personality traits turn off enough of the electorate, he will not achieve the office he seeks.
