Woman Says McDonald’s Happy Meal Has Not Rotted in 6 Years
KFOR ^ | DALLAS FRANKLIN | FEBRUARY 9, 2016

Posted on 02/09/2016 10:22:32 AM PST by nickcarraway

A woman who bought a Happy Meal from McDonald’s six years ago says the food has not rotted.

Jennifer Lovdahl says the meal of chicken nuggets and french fries has been sitting in her office for six years.

She bought the meal as an experiment to show her patients how unhealthy the food is.

Even after all these years, the food has not decomposed.

She posted photos of the food and the box it came in on her Facebook page saying on one of the pictures, “the box will decompose before the food does!”

Her Facebook post has gone viral, receiving more than 240,000 shares.

See post #8.

The food didn’t rot because it dehydrated. Or mummified, if you’d prefer.

If she’d actually eat the food ...

[When I was a kid we used to carve faces out of dried apples. I don’t know if they would last for six years, but they lasted a long time. Didn’t have to treat the apple with anything. Just dried them out.]

I’ve probably got fries like that under the seat of my truck.

Seems to me, this is proof positive that we can have McDonalds supply the food for the Mars mission.

Yes - apparently many folks forget how “jerky” was originally made.

Raw meat coated with salts/sugars/spices and then hung in a low-humidity environment until it’s completely dry and dehydrated...

Oddly enough it doesn’t rot.

Does not prove that it is unhealthy. What do you mean by “rot”? do you mean that a green mold grows on it? that it no longer looks like what it was?
It has dried out. You can be sure that bacteria have grown on it and have rendered it uneatable.

Wow, I remember doing that, too now that you mention it. I will have to introduce that to my kids. Fun stuff.

low moisture content and low water- activity of the products this muck-racker chose to exhibit.

Indeed, for correct reasons (regulatory, PR, legal, insurance, etc..) MCD is deathly afraid of any pathogens (common in all agriculture raw-materials) making it into their final products. Whatever you think about MCD food, its factories are the world-standard in food-safety.

Why is it whenever people are confronted with real science, they run screaming in the other direction? Anyone who has taken a decent chemistry course could have predicted this outcome.

Someone should point out to this goober that going without food is even more unhealthy.

Say what you will about Mickey D’s, it’s still a cheap way to eat cooked food.

Yup. To extend the explanation, the food at one of the early South Pole expedition coastal bases is still (mostly) edible over a century later, due to the low humidity and temperature. Antarctica is after all the world’s largest desert.

What does she think is going to happen?

Has she ever wondered why all of the wood and natural cloth that she sees daily hasn’t rotted?

Organic material must be broken down, and that requires the right conditions and the right organisms. Bring food into a sterile, dry environment and it will just mummify. There likely is mold on the food, but the mold died for lack of moisture, before it could get very far.

Additionally, the salt content helped preserve it (and dry it out).

Hasn’t rotted in 6 years?

That’s what I call durability and value in an MRE!

She needs to try that with honey. Does THAT make honey non-nutritious?

So. What. We are all going to die soon anyway. The vegan salad eater won’t live any longer than my grandmother, who live 94 years eating bacon and eggs. Enjoy life before you die, people. Good grief.
