Devastated commuters have paid tribute to a beloved moggy known as the Bus Stop Cat after it had to be put down after being kicked.
Missy, the 13-year-old ginger feline, spent her days at a bus stop in Havant, Hants, and was adored by hundreds of commuters who she greeted every day.
Her distraught owner Richard McCormick found her bleeding from the mouth and rushed to a vet.
She had a fractured skull, a broken jaw and that all of her teeth had been knocked out. They had no other choice but to put her down.
Dozens of floral tributes have now been left at her favourite bus stop, along with poignant messages and children's drawing.

I’m not a cat lover, but hurting any critter like that is just wrong. It isn’t big enough to be a threat to anyone.
ditto
Very sad. In Kitty Heaven now.
At times like this, I really intensely loathe the human race.
Some people are hardly any better than animals.
“Nothing gold can stay.”
And she was friendly and an icon of that area. Even if she was not friendly, wouldn’t want to see her injured. Poor cat.
On the one hand, it seems a bit much for mourning a cat.
On the other hand, I’d like to find the person who did this and do the exact same thing to them.
We’re not supposed to swear, but what sick bastard did such a thing.
i would set up a grand memorial and hopefully at the very least shame the person by social media.
they usually start bragging at some point and always go on to larger animalas.
i’m actually overrun by a few too many in my home but i never harm them.
why was the owner letting the cat out? some people do that i guess.
my little buddy stays here.
Only companion during the day for many years after head injury.
mom and fiance got him for me while i was in the hospital.
he’s sleeping on his cat house :)
sorry for the strong words, but I WOULD DESTROY anyone who intentionally hurt my cat.
or anyone I saw hurting a cat.
Didn’t know they could be so childlike and affectionate
little buddy Spaghetti :)
Sadly for some people sitting there petting the cat while they wait for their bus was the best part of their day.
The world is full of desperately unhappy people and this warm purring kitty gave some of them a little joy.
Losing that can be devastating.
Sad kitty ping...
I love animals but buying flowers for a cat?...
Me too, I am proud to be a member of the Human species but damn, I hate what we do sometimes to creatures like this, for no damn reason.
- Sorry for the language.
There are people here at Free Republic that think something like this (animal torture) is a perfectly acceptable form of entertainment.
I've read their posts for years. In their minds, a family dog or cat is the exact same thing as a germ, or a cockroach, or a spatula.
Some people are just cruel and weird.
Glad your kitty is safe and spoiled.
There is a special place in hell reserved for those who abuse Gods precious animals.
You read my mind. One never knows how often the simple act of petting a gentle cat (or dog) can be a bright spot in someone’s day. There may have been people down on their luck and enduring the loss of a loved one only to feel the tap of a paw on their leg, look down, and see the understanding face of a little critter.
