I remember flying in and out of Hickam AFB in 1971 on a C-141 from Okinawa. Before we could even get out, two airmen came through the cargo hold, both spraying cans of DDT in both hands back and forth until they were gone.

In SE Asia, we used to spray ourselves down with DDT laced bug spray to keep the mosquitoes off us. It worked! I’m still here!
I remember reading, in PROGRESSIVE FARMER, back in the 1960s of a man who ate DDT to test it's safety. DDT sprayed on a bed destroyed bedbugs as they had to crawl through it to get a blood meal from the sleeper. We used to get cool, in the 1950s, by running behind the mosquito spray truck which used DDT.

Dairy flies were a major plague when I was growing up on the farm in the 40s. DDT became available and we did the hand spraying on the cows and barn with a 4 gallon sprayer. It was a miracle - all the flies disappeared. Almost heaven on earth. After a while, flies gradually reappeared and eventually we repeated the spraying. Again, most disappeared, but this time the return was faster. This was repeated a number of times until no flies disappeared when the DDT was applied. Next we tried something called Lindane, same thing. The result seemed to be super flies resistant to anything we could put on them.
Thank you for your service. Asthma prevented me from enlisting-silly since I played football and hockey through college. My Grandfather was a firefighter on a baby carrier and was there for Okinawa watching on deck for our pilots to come back.
