Super Bowl 50? Last year it was XLIX. What happened? Does the NFL think that most Americans do not know that L is the Roman numeral for 50? But then again reading the news, they are probably right. After all XLIX has more letters than L.

L in football stands for “loss”. That’s why you can’t have a Super Bowl L. You can, however, have a Super Bowl XXX and the NFL doesn’t mind.

Superbowl “L”

Superbowl L - it’s a hell of a game.

The Broncos welcome the Panthers to Superbowl hell.

The Hell Bowl.

I have no idea why they are calling in 50 - but the above would be my guess. “L” doesn’t look at cool as XXXVII anyways. I would have called it XXXXX (using some artistic license). Of course then there would be a lot of porn jokes.
