‘I predicted it in my past life in 33 bc.’
I remember some silly leftist talk radio host back before the 2008 meltdown bragging about his solid investment in real estate. And a stock broker lamented not being in real estate. The ‘Good Day Show’ a morning program. [Something-Sephen]
But most in talk radio were concerned.

With DC on a decade plus spending binge, multiple theater wars, entitlement spending soaring, exporting jobs and manufacturing and taxing the crap out of producing citizens its amazing were afloat right now to even post about the subject of the economy.

That's a good idea anytime,but now I think it's becoming imperative.

‘... multiple theater wars... ‘
I agree with you in general. One small caveat:
Wars don’t cost much at all. Nation-building does. And I was opposed to heavy-budget nation building. I bet Rumsfeld secretly opposed it too. He was a tight-wad.
‘... its amazing were afloat right now to even post about the subject of the economy.’
It is. Other nations devalued their currency while we kept relying on quantitative easing. All it took was to raise interest rates a tiny fraction, and the dominoes started to fall.

Plenty of acorns outside my yard. And nasty-tasting pears every Spring. My own well. Canned goods. I’m very blessed, better off than most. If I die, this nation won’t be for 50 year olds anymore. We’ll be lucky to keep the young alive.

The FR made a handy discussion thread here for the current meltdown.

Actually if you bought some real estate back in 2008 it’s possible you’ve done quite well.

I am speaking of this particular drop. I knew a crunch was coming when even the Fed wasn't going to feed it ever more heroin which is what brought it back since 2007. I haven't been happy about the fundamentals in this economy since long before the dot com bust. It was about a lack of confidence in our educational system to deliver a sufficient number of people sufficiently productive on a net basis to produce the wealth to carry us past the demographic baby boom bubble.
This economy has been about diluting the wealth of the people with printed money while selling the family jewels: American manufacturing skills and technology. Cooking up the Internet bought us time, but what that did was kill the bulk of the "service economy" that wasn't either.

Yeah, I’ve been concerned about that as well.
’ ...while selling the family jewels: American manufacturing skills and technology.’
Right. A manufacturing base helped train spoiled brats from scratch. Even then, class warfare has watered down the work ethic. I saw that first-hand in both manufacturing and the service sector.

Glad to hear that, but the 2008 bubble was in real estate, and real estate values are propped up artificially. Every four-year regime is scared to tamper with that tradition.

I started my adult career as a manufacturing engineer and went from there through to R&D project management in a field that involved chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering.

I worked with ‘unskilled’ labor as both a temp and as full-time. And the work ethic at that level is awash with class warfare. Sickening — they deliberately drag their feet. I told them it is the sin of theft, stealing work-hours, and they didn’t care. In the last factory I worked, it shut down a few years later.

It was thought to be untrue ‘cause it was posted from Zerohedge first. I’ve seen it at several sources since.
