Donald Trump was on Face the Nation, and had an epic tantrum. Right now he's so scared of losing to Ted Cruz, he's having to lash out in ridiculous ways. It's interesting seeing what Trump looks like when he's behind, he knows he's behind, and he's wetting-his-pants scared of being the big, fat loser.
Here's the key transcript:
DICKERSON: When you say about Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100%, "Not too many evangelicals come out of Cuba," what does that mean?
TRUMP: Well, it just means that Cuba generally speaking is a Catholic country. And you don't equate evangelicals with Cuba. I don't. I mean, I think of evangelicals, and i have, I guess I am. You know, I'm Presbyterian. I'm Protestant. But I don't see it coming out of Cuba.
DICKERSON: But you're not questioning whether - I mean, as far as you know, he could be more devout than you are.
TRUMP: It's possible. Certainly it's possible. I'm not questioning it. And I say it in a somewhat smiling manner. But there's a little truth to it.
What strikes me first about this is that Trump feels the need to attack Ted Cruz's Christianity as fake. Trump wants you to think that Cruz is a secret Catholic, only pretending to be a Baptist (SBC) in order to get votes in Iowa.
Does anyone actually believe this? If you've ever heard Ted Cruz speak in your life, you know that he's been going to and paying attention in church. His style of speaking is the tell. He gets in your face, he lectures you. He wants you to get right with government. He could sprinkle his speeches with "Can I get an amen?" and it would sound natural. You can't look into his heart and know what he truly believes, but it's obvious he's been going to church and paying attention to his pastors.
But next, it's obvious Trump is pretty out of touch with what's going on in Presbyterianism in America. He's so hot to try to tar Cruz as a secret Catholic, but when given the chance, he's not taking a stand in the great conflict right now in American Presbyterianism. Let me explain.
The biggest Presbyterian Church in our country is the Presbyterian Church (USA). PCUSA currently has about 1.7 million members. That's been dropping for decades, but it started dropping faster in 2012, after the 2011 ratification of Amendment 10-A to the Book of Order, which would allow ordination of non-chaste homosexuals.
The large drop represents entire local churches abandoning PCUSA in favor of the Presbyterian Church in America. PCA takes a much more traditional view on most social issues, and has grown to have about 350,000 members. PCA and PCUSA have had to go to court over the ownership of church buildings and property, of the local congregations who flipped from PCUSA to PCA.
For Trump to speak of himself being Presbyterian, without mentioning which kind of Presbyterian he is, tells me one thing: Trump likely attends church at a PCUSA congregation, which would mean he stuck with the group that permits abortion (it is deemed morally acceptable), homosexual priests, homosexual 'blessings' as pseudo-marriages, and free divorce.
Donald Trump is throwing stones, but the evidence suggests he's got a glass house on this issue. Not a smart tactic, and a mark of scared desperation on his part.
Cruz won’t take the bait. I followed his Senate campaign and he was Class all the way, no matter how much mud his opponent slung.
Thanks, we have to keep our head above the fray a bit. Its fine to disagree but in the bigger picture we want a president who will restore the freedoms of American’s and the stabilty/prosperity/security of our Nation.
These are the words,”Well, it just means that Cuba generally speaking is a Catholic country. And you don’t equate evangelicals with Cuba.”
Trump was asked specifically about the statement by the host, having said them once. He didn’t bring it up, so I wouldn’t blame him for the second airing. He refused to expand on the comment he just left it as an observation. I think its probably true.
Ted Cruz’s Dad found his faith later in 1975 after Ted was born so that faith didn’t emerge from Cuba. In many ways it was a fluff statement because how does that matter whether their are Evangelical in Cuba or not?
If people are upset about the statement I think it reflects that Christians are under attack in America, a very deplorable state of affairs. I do not think this was an attack and I find it a non issue. The two men are going to have to say some things that marginalizes the other in the campaign but they are being very careful not to really step up the tone. I suggest we should do the same for so many reasons.
What would have happened if Hillary didn’t get her potty break.
LoL
Cruz is not Catholic. Cruz has been a Southern Baptist since he was 8 years old. I met and spoke with the pastor who prayed with 8 year old Ted and who also baptized him. The pastor, who is retired now, lives in Tennessee.
Is there any way they run electrical wires directly beneath Hillary’s podium?
Most stupid headline I’ve seen in awhile LoL.
I won’t comment on the facts. I will say though that this is pitiful and babyish writing, takes the whole debate down a notch.
It may come as a surprise to Trump, not noted for his diligent church attendance in any church, that Catholics are Christians. I was pretty appalled by his attack on Cruz, frankly. It had nothing to do with politics or any political positions, but was just a nasty personal attack with a pitch to people that Trump is trying to court (Evangelicals).
But then, nothing Trump says has anything to do with politics or reason, and it’s all about what he thinks the audience of the moment wants to hear.

That's it??? THAT'S IT???
From those couple of sentences this moron gets that headline???

Then he has to make up something to match his headline...What a loser...
Did it mention trump lying again about Ted and the wall? I suspect the ads will take care of that outright lie by trump.
Too bad trump is so clueless about so many things. Seems like he sits in a bar and copies the drunk who knows nothing.
I agree. I don’t believe that Cruz is Catholic. I was just objecting to the idea that Catholicism wasn’t a form of the same “faith” as Protestantism: Christianity.
You have way too much time on your hands...
I doubt he is scared.
Still not going to vote for Bush, Red State...
“How many have lost New Hampshire and won the nomination?”
Um, the last 3 presidents?
This is unfair. Trump never suggested that Cruz or Catholics weren't Christians (although the writer of this article seemed to be doing so). He was trying to suggest that Cruz might not be an Evangelical. Catholics are not normally considered to be Evangelical, but they are still Christians. Let's not start confusing things here.
- It highlights Trump's lack of understanding of evangelicals. Evangelical does not mean you have to be of European descent and living in flyover country. To question Cruz's faith based on his father's country of origin is rather ignorant and condescending.
- It helps Ted Cruz's get out the vote effort with this segment.
Bottom line is that ordinary people are sick of the
political games of the Washington establishment; of
people going up there and immediately getting
dollar signs in their eyes, digging in and making a
“carear” out of Congress, quickly becoming corrupt.
They see some hope of a change in that dynamic with
Trump. - I think Cruz might have some difficulty
beating Hitlery; but maybe Trump won’t. - A lot of
people are scared of the Clintons & maybe not without
reason.
Good observations. By continuing this attack, Trump does expose himself to the very evangelicals to whom he is trying to appeal.
