Now the Abilene forecast switched back to 2 hours heavy rain. That appears to be near where the freezing line is near. Might finally see a freezing rain tornado. Unfortunately.
Reminds me of that book
I’ll Jump Over The Cliff
By Hugo Phirst
I got to Lubbuck yesterday to bury my aunt
The various news outlets are saying eight fatalities in the Rowlette/Garland area tornado.
Tuesday afternoon I stood on the edge of the Grand Canyon in a freezing fog and driving snow with winds running into the canyon. Couldn’t see a thing in any direction. Knew where the edge was but a total whiteout.
I imagine the Panhandle is going to be worse tonight.
The freezing rain will make a mess out of the roads. Black ice.
Indeed..... I keep about 8 cords of hickory secured and dry, with 2 face cords stored in the garage. Also have high capacity bed tanks for the 4x4 trucks so can use those as an escape pod if needed also. We keep those full on the diesel and mogas trucks in winter just for added weight and range if our small community loses power we can go without buying fuel for almost 60 days if need be....
Just a waiting game now.... Prayers for those not as lucky in the Texas storms tonight.
Prayers up for you and your family, dear ag.
Stay safe in this crazy Texas weather.
So strange....the western - northern parts of the state are going through this, while we’re still having balmy weather in SE TX....for now.
Smart planning.
Amen to your prayers.
Never said Abilene is in the panhandle
Said the places mentioned are gettin hammered, I am in Lubbock(also not the panhandle) and 10ft drifts are expected
Wind earlier was 50ish
I livd in Arizona but from Wichita Falls
(also not the panhandle)
I saw condors there last time I visited
I’m in south Fort Worth and didn’t know about tornados until my wife called me from Arkansas about 8 pm. Didn’t have the TV or radio on. didn’t even rain hard until about 2 hours ago.
Anybody know about Frisco ?
Update..... we have power back. Still no snow, just very high winds and chilly factor extremes for here..... I know folks up in Minot are thinking ....wimp.
59 mph wind an 22 degrees.....2 degree wind chill.
We have snow here at the AAC hacienda - big flakes blowing in.
That’s quite a wind. Believe it or not it’s in the 40s and raining here. Warmest December in memory. Not even a trace of snow this month.
That hasn’t happened in a while.
Happy New Year my friend.

A short video of Garland tornado being backlit by exploding transformers.
My brother-in-law in Estelline is getting it right now.
Oh I’m so glad you got your power back ! :-)
My worry is, the kiddos were out and had to drive home, but they weren't in Garland...about 15 miles from it.
61 on Chritmas eve
50 on Christmas Day in Buffalo. I would hate to live where all that snow is.
