RICHMOND, Va. (AP) â Virginia will no longer recognize concealed handgun permits from more than two dozen states that have less stringent laws.
Attorney General Mark Herring said Tuesday that the state will revoke its reciprocity agreement with 25 states after a review found that their permit requirements are weaker than Virginiaâs. The change takes effect Feb. 1.

Those states should ban the reprocity of Virginia driver’s licenses in their states...and hunting/fishing licenses, as well.
I know.
Conservatives in Virginia wondering about the sound of the underground whirring coming from Mount Vernon and Monticello understand all too well my disgust and consternation hearing the underground whirring sound from the likes of John Adams, Sam Adams, and Paul Revere buried up here in Massachusetts.
I drive through Concord, MA each morning, and on occasion see the liberals protesting some stupid liberal cause. Irritates the crap out of me.
No complaints here, new stuff. Did you notice that the mods cleaned up your mess?
You might want to thank them. You might also want to learn some basic protocols and courtesies before you post again.
What are they going to do, have border stops between NC and VA, where people come back and forth daily— and armed for their protection in their vehicles going and returning to work in either state. This is ridiculous and will NOT be enforced by locals certainly and maybe only by state troopers who have a need to advance their rank.
The Attorney General can be removed by the legislature if I’m not mistaken. And, the legislature can nullify the order by a simple voice vote.
Thanks. Well, I guess that’s one good thing about jumping through all the hoops to get an illinois permit.
Thanks for cleaning the title. I’ll do better next time so I don’t irk anyone else.
And that, my friends, is why the Fairfax county vote stealing machine waits every election to see how many votes they need to put their man over the top. I watch it in real time...they stole the AG spot.
From the Attorney General of Virginia:
Because the following 25 states lacked adequate disqualifiers to deny a permit to someone who would be barred from obtaining a permit in Virginia, the Virginia State Police, on the advice of the Attorney General, has begun notifying the following states that their concealed handgun permits will no longer be recognized by the Commonwealth:
Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
Delaware #
Florida *
Idaho
Indiana
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisiana *
Minnesota #
Mississippi
Montana
Nebraska
New Mexico
North Dakota *
North Carolina
Ohio
Pennsylvania *
South Carolina *
South Dakota
Tennessee
Washington #
Wisconsin #
Wyoming *
* indicates states that will no longer recognize Virginia concealed handgun permits because of laws in those states that require mutual recognition of permits
# indicates states that do not currently recognize a Virginia concealed handgun permit
Didn’t bother me in the slightest, have a Merry Christmas.
Florida has, in their agreement to reciprocity with any state, the proviso that non-recognition of reciprocity by another state, will consequently ALSO mean that that states carry permit holders WILL NOT be recognized in FL.
Just imagine, for a moment HOW many people from FL also have homes in VA and vice versa, and travel to and from.
Note also (from the asterisks next to the states named in the article) that NC, Tennessee and Kentucky continue to recognized VA carry permits even though their citizen’s carry permits will not be recognized by VA. This is going to BLOW UP in a major way.

Count me as one of them. Primary residence is in Florida but I spend 4-5 months a year in Virginia visiting with family. Since we often hike in bear and rattlesnake habitats, I carry a revolver with both snake shot and hunting loads. Also carry as we travel between states as I usually have items of value with me. I had a Virginia permit before moving to Florida and found the Florida permit course to be every bit as comprehensive as Virginia’s. I see no reason for this action and hope the legislature will take action to correct it.
Is there some way to return the District of Columbia to its original diamond shape? What would you lose, but a bunch of big-government voters?
if you have never been to Northern VA, you couldn’t understand the growth in population that isn’t in or near the original DC. The westward sprawl is mind boggling. And too much of that consists of liberal leaning people. So, going back to the original DC diamond would produce nothing of value except to make DC more liberal.
If/when I get to Concord, I try to stop at the bridge to remind myself that Massachusetts used to be a great state... er... commonwealth. Whatever.
I love Virginia. Lived there for many years and always enjoyed taking the boat and grandkids to Smith Mtn Lake in the summer. We’ll go elsewhere the next summer.
Virginia is an open carry state. From the VA state patrol website FAQs: “May I âopen carryâ a firearm in Virginia?
A firearm may be carried openly in Virginia except where prohibited by statute. Please refer to Sections 18.2-279 to 18.2-311.2. The Code of Virginia may be searched at http://leg1.state.va.us/000/src.htm."
So, open carry by any lawful US citizen is legal in VA except where the Statute prohibits (assuming cities may have these, but not stating which ones).

Here is the VA Constitution on the subject of the right to keep and bear arms-— which elucidates exactly who are the militia:
“Article I, Section 13That a well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the proper, natural, and safe defense of a free state, therefore, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed; that standing armies, in time of peace, should be avoided as dangerous to liberty; and that in all cases the military should be under strict subordination to, and governed by, the civil power.”
This Attorney General is overstepping his office- and will be slapped down.. quickly and well before the Feb 1. implementation date—
WHICH, btw may be “leaked” to the VA libs McAuffulle and Red Herring— the date for obamaumao’s so called gun control executive order he and bloomberg worked up. Corresponding date with this VA-— “rule”.
They would already be organizing a committee of the militia to remove the Attorney General of the state. Most assuredly. He has clearly overstepped his capacity. Will not get away with this. The reciprocity agreement is an act of the Legislature, signed by the Governor and still in force.
Can they do that? Tell the Texas governor - he'd do it !
Vote for Terry McAuliffe reap the whirlwind
