A chance for my favorite TRIVA question: In her high school year book (Port Arthur TX) who was in the photo next to her their senior year -

Jimmy Johnson

...

And then Jimmy went to college with Jerry Jones. It must be something about the initials.

Less than a year later I was in Vietnam & she was already dead, along with Jimi Hendrix, both age 26.

...

I thought it was the 27 club.

I don’t think Shaq could fit both feet in that car.

The Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur had what was purportedly Janis Joplin’s original psychedelic Porche, when I visited there several years ago. And IIRC it didn’t look like any of these LOL! So there must have been multiple Porches or at least paint jobs!

While there, I bought a giant woven cloth tapestry showing Janis sitting on the hood (of the same Porche that was on display in the Museum) posed similar to posts 13 and 21, but I’m pretty sure she was dressed differently, too. I still have the tapestry, in a trunk or box in my attic. Not gonna dig it out.

The Museum had some other cool stuff, including Big Bopper’s sheet music for Chantilly Lace.

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz,

My friends all have Porsches, I must make amends.

Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,

So, oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz!

Guess she never managed to come up with the purchase price.

Man she sure favored those red crushed velvet or crushed corduroy pants didn’t she?

Lots of pics of her in those britches

A tragic figure

So talented but homely and rejected and used by men all her life she just threw herself at them more

People treated her cruelly based on her looks and idiosyncratic behavior

She was kind of a beat blues cum hippie chick....

Sad and pained

Ridicule can be the worst form of cruelty especially when it’s a public humiliation based on a woman’s looks

Her college....pissant Lamar College....the fraternities awarded her most handsome man on campus...

That’s a helluva public blow to woman’s self esteem

No shock to me she self destructed

I guess I’m just like a turtle
That’s hidin’ underneath its hardened shell.
Whoa, whoa, oh yeah, like a turtle
Hidin’ underneath its hardened shell.
But you know I’m very well protected -
I know this goddamn life too well.

Oh! Now call me mean, you can call me evil, yeah, yeah,
I’ve been called much of some things around,
Honey, don’t ya know I have!
Whoa, call me mean or call me evil
I’ve been called much of some things, all things around,
Yeah, but I’m gonna take good care of Janis, yeah,
Honey, ain’t no one gonna dog me down.
Alright, yeah.
