The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.
No matter what, you won't be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.
Twelve hundred miles from my garden. Not that it matters, it’s under a thick blanket of snow, last I heard. :-)
Otherwise still trying to figure out what to do with about 30 Poblano peppers on the one plant that summered over. It had a whopping 4 peppers in the spring.
Otherwise just hunkering down enjoying the more moderate Cen. Tx. temps; highs in the 60s and 70s. Nice to walk about the yard and not melt.
Thank you, Dear FRiend!
I take my extra peppers and chop them, saute for a few minutes in olive oil and then freeze in small quantities in vacuum foodsaver bags. Regular ziplocs would work too if you press the air out of them. It is so handy when making a pot f chili or any dish to just throw them in.
Unfortunately, I tend to be a hoarder, as I am into art, music, crafts, gardening, motorcycles, photography, and computers.
(and romantic walks on the beach and candlelight dinners hahaha)
All of the above “hobbies” accumulate STUFF. My two br apt in FL was packed with sheet music, art supplies, a piano, six guitars, two basses, a whole closet of hard copy of my musical compositions, Harley parts, amps, canvases, paintings, recording studio equipment, three computers, and weaving supplies.
My brother called me on October 18th with the news that I was needed.
By October 31st, all I had left was One Bass, one electric guitar, two acoustic guitars, a keyboard swapped with a neighbor for my piano, One Computer, my car, my Harley, and my dog.
It was strangely liberating.
Now, as I clean Mom’s house, my siblings keep saying, “Oh...DON’T throw that away! Keep it in the family!”
They think I am heartless because I don’t want to instantly load up on 65 years worth of someone else’s stuff!
Once I am resettled, I have plenty of time to amass a brand new hoard!
Ah, thanks, sounds like the way to go. We do that with a lot of stuff, sounds like it’ll work well with peppers. Was thinking about drying them out but not sure how good they’d be as poblano’s don’t bring a lot of flavor to the party even when they’re fresh.
We have yet to receive our first snowfall of the season here in Massachusetts!
I’m not complaining, though. I need to order some seeds soon.
It’s nice to see you, Johnny!
I’m so sorry. That must have been quite a shock.
Thank you, Dear Trisham. (((HUGS)))
I’ve been doing that for years with all kinds of peppers, especially shishito and banana. Just use enough oil to coat them really well. I do not save the seeds. Too hot for me. Have not done it with jalapenos. I pickle and can those.
wish I was there when my mom and my dad died....
I know the turkeys are a nuisance but I love seeing them....here in eastern Washington, they seem to be everywhere....
I've always loved pewter because my mom loved it, and collected it, and she was a great patriot and loved the historical side of things....
but do my kids want any of my pewter?....nope....
I'm sure lots of people have these same dilemmas..
The same here in north western Cal especially out in the hills with acorns but this is the first year to have a turkey in our yard. We happened to have a sack of hen scratch and they Gobble it right up
Indeed. I know the Lord will take care of me. :-)
At least pewter isn’t fragile.
Try it with bone china! LOL!
Klemper’s Pine Cone Farm grew a bumper crop this year. I am getting ready to try some pine cone soup. Anybody have any good pine cone recipes? LOL
Here is a bunch of pesto recipes-
