Josie Wales: Governments dont live together. People live together. Governments dont give you a fair word or a fair fight. Ive come here to give you either one. Or get either one from you Im saying that men can live together without butchering one another
A great classic movie scene all Freepers can appreciate.
Josey Wales is a former Confederate States of America fighter moving out West after the war between the States and wanted by the Union. The Calvary is in pursuit of him.
Anyway here is his conversation with the Comanches.
Find it interesting at the end of the scene the agreement between Joey Wales and the Comanches is a hand shake with blood which represents the "Life Force".
Great stuff!
I have an old friend who is an Oglala Lakota. Crazy Horse was Oglala. Tough Hombres. I recently told my friend the government and establishment is trying to do to conservatives what they did to Indians. Only they wont bother to put us on a reservation.
Wales and Lonesome Dove, the best.
“I might just take up tee-pee livin’ “
Why is that NEVER on the old movies?
I liked “Dyin’aint much of a livin’ boy”
I reckon so.
I've wondered that also, it was a great movie in my view.
During the Civil War the Red Legs were filthy ruffians who reveled in the blood of their many victims and fought without honor.
I spit on their name.
Of course, I derive this opinion solely from the movie in question.
Yes, worth remembering:
"Now remember, when things look bad and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. 'Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That's just the way it is."
Most of which liberals likely hate..............
I use it with youth Sunday school to talk about war and peace.
First, he spits.
+1
One of the all-time great movie lines.

I don’t know if Lone Watie was a real person but when I visited the Will Rogers Memorial in Claremore, OK, I noticed they had his Father’s Confederate uniform displayed. I am going by memory but think Clem Rogers was a Captain under General Stand Watie and his mounted Cherokee Rifles.
Rogers County was named after Clem, not Will as many people think. Also the Rogers family is buried under that memorial in a vault.
Your description of the Kansas Border Scouts (Red Legs) is supported by more than just this movie.
"I wore this frock coat to Washington before The War. We wore them because we belonged to the five civilized tribes. We dressed ourselves up like Abraham Lincoln. You know, we got to see the Secretary of the Interior. And he said, "Boy, you boys sure look civilized." He congratulated us and he gave us medals for looking so civilized. We told him about how our land had been stolen and how our people were dying. When we finished he shook our hands and said, "endeavor to persevere!" They stood us in a line: John Jumper, Chili McIntosh, Buffalo Hump, Jim Buckmark, and me I am Lone Watie. They took our pictures. And the newspapers said, "Indians vow to endeavor to persevere." We thought about for a long time. "Endeavor to persevere." And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union."
I liked the Missouri Boat Ride scene as well. Great movie!
