TOMBSTONE, Ariz. — An actor staging a historical gunfight in the Old West town of Tombstone and a bystander were shot with live rounds during a show that was supposed to use blanks, leading officials to call for the re-enactments popular with tourists to be put on hold.

Sounds like anti gun nuts.
It used to be common for the anti gun nuts to go to gun shows and stick ammo in the guns hoping someone would get shot and they would stop the gun shows.

The Tombstone Vigilantes were formed in 1946 and are dedicated to preserving and passing along Tombstone’s history to tourists who visit the town near the U.S.-Mexico border. The group also performs mock hangings where unsuspecting victims are tried and convicted by the Tombstone Vigilantes. What could go wrong?

We’ve been to Tombstone before....every street corner has “cowboys” hawking how their gunfight show is better than the guys’ down the street - there are at least a half dozen.

We were leaving Tombstone as this happened. The female bystander was hit with shrapnel and refused medical treatment per other news sources. Also the reenactor arrived late and did not have his firearm safety inspected as is the usual policy. The Vigilantes are not a “paid professional” group. They are volunteers and run on donations. They have been safely doing reenactments for years. I am surprised this happened but if you cut corners on safety, something is bound to happen.

In the defensive fire training I’ve participated in, both with blanks and plastic bullets, all participants either load the weapon to be aimed at them, or watched the loading.
Live ammo is prohibited from the location.
