Telecommunications and tech firm Pegasus Global Holdings is planning to build a full-scale American town in the New Mexico desert, a place which they hope to open to researchers developing technologies for modern living.
Pegasus plans to spend $1billion creating the 15-square-mile town, called CITE, with construction to begin sometime next year and opening as early as 2018.
CITE will include a town big enough for 35,000 people, with a business district downtown surrounded by terraced housing suburbs - but no one will ever live there.
Instead, companies will have the opportunity to test such innovations as driverless vehicles and natural disaster-proof homes in a human-free, practically risk-free, environment.

In that part of the desert where a variety of trees, lush green grass will flourish, and water fountains will gush from the earth. And no snakes, scorpions, and assorted wildlife don't invade.)

Nobody would want to live in that drug war zone
It is private money so good for them. I don’t see a problem with it, especially if it can help bring new tech into reality faster.
I recall this was big news in Hobbs back in 2012 or 2013 when I was out there. They were going to build it west of Hobbs going towards Artesia... last I read it all fell through, though.
I recall Hobbs was buzzing because they were planning on it like west of Hobbs or Jal.... that was 2-3 years ago, that is was in the paper when I was out there.

Isn't a New Mexican desert .... American ?
I was trying to figure out some money laundering angle, but you may have figured out what is really going on.
I can’t wait until the parasites move in and tank the whole project. They have rights, too, ya know!
The Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) was a concept developed by Walt Disney near the end of his lifetime. This planned city was his intended purpose for the property purchased near Orlando, Florida, that eventually became the Walt Disney World Resort. Its purpose was to be a "community of the future" designed to stimulate American corporations to come up with new ideas for urban living.

New Mexico Magazine articles on how people constantly think we’re not in the USA.
It will make a fine FEMA Camp
Good thinking.
I don’t believe it. Reminds me of the Glomar Explorer; a purported private adventure being funded by the government. So what is the government up to in this adventure?
See my post #20 this thread!
Build it and they will come?
Sounds creepy!
But at least the Village was used as a resort hotel when it wasn’t being used to break prisoners. They don’t have that good of a cover story for this one.
They couldn’t find a town, already built, that was up for sale?
Movie Stars buy towns all the time, as well as private islands and miles and miles of shoreline.
It keeps the Riff Raff out! *SMIRK*
