Russia Proposes Superhighway Linking New York And London

What if U.S. citizens could drive...to Asia? A new proposal from Russia would see the country connected to the U.S. by highway bridge as part of a massive superhighway crossing the length of Russia, ultimately linking New York and London.

Called the Trans-Eurasian Belt Development (TEPR). the ambitious project was proposed by Russian Railways head Vladimir Yakunin earlier this month, according to CNN.

The route would include some pre-existing roads to reach London and New York, but would still require thousands of miles of tarmac across the width of Russia. This would be laid alongside the existing Trans-Siberian Railway—the longest railway in the world.

If one could get this past the environmentalists, this would be great.

Once that is done, then you can drive almost anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere. South America is still not connected yet, thanks to the Darien Gap... just south of the Panama Canal, just north of Colombia. (Most have to load their car on a container ship or RORO to sail past this short gap in the road system.)

Connecting Australia will be a bit trickier. ;0)

My first thought too. Mexicans are bad enough, but muslim scum hordes would be a nightmare.

Interesting idea. Does Russia have some truly worthwhile tourist attractions and sites, out across that vast distance?

“Fly directly to mile 10,237 and stay in the authentic huts, just like Genghis Khan olde tymes?”

“Then if you have the time, drive 4,729 miles to another attraction, which is likely to make you wish you could stay forever in beautiful mutha Russia.”

Well, that’ll make it easier for the tanks to get here.

Well half of that road is through empty, frozen land. Not going to be easily passable year-round.

Also, why have a road connect NY and London? They’re both more business/economic locales, nothing to do with raw production or manufacturing, there’s no need for material good to be traded between them. A road is useless...

So instead of flying, take a 6 month vacation and drive? Well that’s just practical as hell.

I once read that at some World's Fair or Exposition maybe in Afghanistan, in the 1950’s the US sent a pavilion where
Elsie the Bordon Cow was the theme.

The CCCP sent and donated special massive road paving equipment, technologies and know-how to Afghanistan.

In 1980, they used those Soviet paved roads to invade Afghanistan.

Some nations are caught up in trivialities while others plan ahead.

Just based on the fact that this is being suggested by Putin is reason enough to ignore it.

Precisely my very same thoughts on the topic.
It would be the most underused road in history.
