By now it should be clear to both sides of the Donald TrumpFox News war that there never was nor will there likely be an enduring truce. Case in point: Earlier today, Fox News released a statement announcing that the networks chairman, Roger Ailes, and Trump will meet next week to discuss their differences of opinion regarding Foxs coverage of Mr. Trumps presidential campaign.
Its the second time in a month that Ailes has attempted to broker peace with Trump after Trump took to Twitter to blast Megyn Kelly.
One reason there likely wont be peace in our time is that Trump still has not gotten over Kelly's questioning of him during the opening Republican primary debate. She caused me a lot of damage, didnt she? Trump recently vented to a friend. Hes really angry, a source explained.
Which is why the latest dustup broke out on Tuesday night. During Kelly's show, Trump fired off a series of anti-Kelly tweets. Both sides dispute what happened next. According to a Fox source, Ailes called Fox executive vice-president Bill Shine and told him to cancel Trumps scheduled appearance on The OReilly Factor as payback.
For its part, the Trump campaign says Trump canceled OReilly by announcing a Fox boycott. Fox spokesperson Irena Briganti did not return a call for comment. Trump declined to comment.
Both sides are posturing to save face. Yesterday a Fox statement called Trump's boycott "stale and tiresome." But a source close to the Trump campaign told me that Trump thinks he has the leverage. Trump has been hearing from Fox hosts who are worried that his boycott will hurt ratings.
The calculus seems to be that by shunning Fox, Trump is hoping to drive a wedge between Fox hosts, Kelly, and Ailes. That may be wishful thinking. As an Ailes friend told me today: Roger can't turn back. The entire credibility of Fox as powerbroker rests on Trump being destroyed.
One America News is working for me.
Thank you, my sentiments also.
I feel really betrayed, because I stood up for Fox News when Dish network was in a financial dispute with them. This was less than a year ago, & I wrote and called Dish network, frequently, along with commenting online.
I was such a very loyal Fox News fan, —they were on my TV all day and night. I especially loved The Kelly File and Sean Hannity.
It sickened me to see what happened on debate night, felt like I had been made a fool of, and in hindsight, they did make a fool out of me and it opened my eyes. I don’t think I can ever be a fan of Fox News again, they still make me sick. I do, on rare occasion, still watch Hannity though.
You're right.
I've never even heard of this "speculating, attention-seeking troll."
I can only imagine how many people have turned off Fox News. I have not watched any of it for 2 days. Megyn Kelly has been bringing on guest after guest to trash Trump every night so she can giggle like a school girl about it but not actually do the trash talking. No wonder Trump got ticked.
Ailes is going learn the hard way that he’s just not smart enough to outgame Trump. This cat and mouse stuff only keeps Donald in the news day and night. He revels in it. And it keeps the limelight off the other GOP candidates. The other networks are happy to let Trump on anytime he wants a few minutes to talk smack about Fox News and their anchors. Win win for Trump.
That’s an interesting point.
Working for me now too. Thanks
