Chris Matthews reported back on December 18th, 2007 that 2008 presidential candidate Barack Obama was born in Indonesia and has an Islamic background.

Pointed out repeatedly that the idea of Obama being born in Indonesia didn't face Mathews at all. I took that to mean that either he didn't understand the concept of "natural born citizen", or he just didn't care.

I'll be honest with you. When I did a first listen of the clip, I thought Matthews did say that Obama was born in Indonesia. And that startled me, to say the least.

So I went back and listened again, more carefully. Now I think Matthews was referring to Bob Kerrey’s comments. But it's tough to be sure. Matthews often speaks in a mushy sort of way.

Yes, and that's true true value of this clip, in my opinion. It's proof that Hillary's team questioned Obama's background long before Trump.

Don't get me wrong. Obama's background should be questioned. I personally doubt very much if he was born in the USA. Why else would he refuse to release any of his college records?

College records don’t contain any information on where a person was born. My college transcripts list my address at that time and my grades, that’s it.

If anyone wants to know if Obama registered as a foreign student, the place to look is the federal government to see if he was ever issued a foreign student visa. (F-1 visa). You cannot attend school in the US as a foreign student without a visa and visa records aren’t sealed.
For example, Obama’s father’s student visa files were released under Freedom of Information Act requests.

I'm thinking more of just transcripts here. It would seem to me that for financial aid reasons alone, questions about citizenship and place of birth would be asked.

Just for the heck of it, I checked the on-line application for a local college in my neck of the woods. They wanted citizenship info.
