Apple today released iOS 9.0.1 which contains bug fixes including:
Fixes an issue where some users could not complete setup assistant after updating
Fixes an issue where sometimes alarms and timers could fail to play
Fixes an issue in Safari and Photos where pausing video could cause the paused frame to appear distorted
Fixes an issue where some users with a custom APN setup via a profile would lose cellular data
iOS 9.0.1 over the air or via iTunes using Software Update.
To update your device over the air:
1. Plug your device in to power and connect to the Internet with Wi-Fi.
2. Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
3. Tap Download and Install. If a message asks to temporarily remove apps because iOS needs more space for the update, tap Continue or Cancel. Later, iOS will reinstall apps that it removed. If you tap Cancel, learn what to do next.
4. To update now, tap Install. Or you can tap Later and choose Install Tonight or Remind Me Later. If you tap Install Tonight, just plug your iOS device in to power before you go to sleep. Overnight, your device will update automatically.
5. If asked, enter your passcode.
To update your device using iTunes:
1. Connect your device to your computer.
2. Open iTunes and select your device.
3. Click Summary, then click Check for Update.
4. Click Download and Update.

Swordmaker’s story = minor bugs
Real story = a patch so soon? How did this miss this crap in QA? It’s not like they don’t control the OS *and* the hardware. Sheesh. Embarrassing.

Hi Swordmaker,
For folks considering doing the 9.0.1 update, you might mention that it's TINY (relatively speaking) -- about 25MB in the case of my iPhone 5c and iPad 2 -- and that it does require a restart of the device.

I think when you roll out an update to a hundred million phones in multiple countries, multiple models and all kinds of configurations, some things become evident that were not before.
I appreciate that they are on it so fast.

Do you know ANYTHING about how software releases are done? You fix bugs down to a certain level of severity and then you release it, and patch the smaller ones ASAP.
This is standard OP in any software company. If they waited until "all the bugs are gone" they'd never release it.

If I remember correctly, Apple released a large number of minor updates to iOS 8.0 after its release to fix various issues last year. Expect Apple to do the same with iOS 9.0—the next major release will likely be iOS 9.1, which will probably arrive at the same time as the iPad Pro in November 2015.

Swordmakers story = minor bugs
Real story = a patch so soon? How did this miss this crap in QA? Its not like they dont control the OS *and* the hardware. Sheesh. Embarrassing. Because until you get software out into the hands of now 250,000,000 plus users (iOS 9 topped 50% of users sometime yesterday), you cannot find how it work with every kind of combination of apps and set up. It just isn't possible. Trust YOU to think glass is half-empty, bolobaby. They are minor issues affecting a very small number of users.
- Fixes an issue where some users could not complete setup assistant after updating
- Fixes an issue where sometimes alarms and timers could fail to play
- Fixes an issue in Safari and Photos where pausing video could cause the paused frame to appear distorted
- Fixes an issue where some users with a custom APN setup via a profile would lose cellular data
#1 Required the user to restart the iPhone.
#2 Required putting the clock app and restarting the app.
#3 I tried playing a video and paused it thirty times by count and the frame was always crisp and clear. So, not problem here.
#4 How many people have a custom APN setup via a profile? The only way to test for that is to get it into the field.
It took one week for Apple to get the reports of what needed fixing for these VERY MINOR ISSUES, fix them, and push out an update, and YOU, who do not even use iOS are throwing brickbats?

Okay, first time I experienced an odd effect after an update.
On my iPad 2, after the update/restart completed, I noticed that it was stuck in "portrait" orientation for probably a minute -- it wouldn't rotate to "landscape" when I turned it around (and yes I checked the switch and switch setting). And when it finally did respond to turning by rotating the home page icon array, the small font top line of the home page that says "iPad {time} {charge}" stayed stuck at the top of what would be portrait mode, even after the rest of the display had rotated to landscape! Very weird looking, with the top line running vertical along the left side in landscape mode.
I forced a restart and all is well now, so it's not a big deal, but it was a "first time for everything" moment for my experience with iDevice updates.
The iPhone 5c did not exhibit this behavior, so I figure it's something about the old iPad. Maybe something in the accelerometer?

Everything worked fine on both the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 here. No issues such as you described.

...and YOU, who do not even use iOS are throwing brickbats? Slow news day. The chronic Apple bashers have to get their fix. :-)
But hell, you should see it when the Windows bashers have a slow news day. Lately they've been dragging Clippy out of the dustbin so they can tell the world how much they STILL hate him.
It's a good thing Melinda (French) Gates was taken out of the technical project management at Microsoft. She was responsible for Microsoft BOB, the dippy search dog (who survived BOB and lived for years in XP), and of course Clippy, who BTW was code-named "TFC" during development. Rumor has it the acronym stood for "That Fine Clip", or something like that...
Melinda caused so much mischief with her goofy ideas that Bill Gates had to marry her and get her knocked up so she'd leave Microsoft and stop making trouble there.

I checked the security update page link and there are no security updates associated with iOS 9.0.1, it was purely to fix the bugs listed.

Apple releases bug fix iOS 9.0.1
That's a bogus headline.
There are no bugs with anything from Apple. They're just features.
"Features" are constantly changed by Apple to make them better features. Until the next set of 'features' in the next major release of the OS.
