I know. It’s not right.
“Now darkness has descended on our land
And all your prayers cannot save us
Like fools we’ve let the devil take command
Of the souls that God gave us.
To the altar of evil like lambs to the slaughter we’re led
When the demons arrive, the survivors will envy the dead!”
It also makes a swell incendiary, that can either be used in smaller quantities to start fires, or at night, to overload and *bloom out* most night vision/light amplification devices for three to five minutes or so.
That sounds like Matt Bracken to me. And how I would agree, if I didn’t live in the middle of the Metromess.
Nope, the bastards will burn my house down around me the first couple of weeks, no doubt.
Should I have put a smiley behind that? :)
You can buy a new gasoline generator and leave it in the crate until you need it. When you uncrate it, check the oil and fill it with gasoline it will likely start and run. But the next time that it is needed the carburetor will be fouled from the gasoline residue and will have to be taken apart.
Diesel fuel is safer to transport and store but it gets thick at low temperature and gets jellied from a fungus that grows in the tank. Most Diesel fuel has a fungicide added.
Propane does not foul the carburetor but requires a 500 gallon tank to run a 20 KW generator (which will run a whole )house. The tank can be filled only by your contracted LPG supplier.
Natural gas is similar to propane but requires no tank. An earthquake may interrupt your supply but nat. gas is the least hassle most of the time.
Engines are made that will run on 2 or more fuels.
Thank you for the info. I did not think of natural gas.
I will research it.
Your opinion is noted. Mine is based on the experience of *Hurricane Elvis* in Memphis in the Summer of 2003, during which city power was not restored for 45 days. That's 45 nights with the lights out, as well.
If it hadn't still been raining quite a bit, there'd have been more fires. Neither did it help that one tree in three, some over a century old, came out by the roots and blocked streets.
In our case, the Y2K brouhaha was the training exercise. The real thing came on the morning of 09/11/2001.
And then we had *Hurricane Elvis* when we were in Memphis in 2003. A close friend of milady was murdered in her apartment, and I was informed that we were leaving the balmy urban paradise.
Will some sectors of the country have feral mobs running around killing and looting? Definitely. They do that now.
But I like said, the three most important things as far as disaster are: location, location, location.
Heeee's baaaaack!
Sounds entirely possible.
I don't necessarily like to shoot people, but I do like to see the arms and legs fly off.
Sounds like Mem-town hasn't changed in the decade I've been away. No great loss to either of us.
Where I live there's just about none.
Likewise, though there's a county * trades training facility* for repeat misdemeanor convicts and druggies, and a women's prison one county south. And we occasionally get baddies in from out-of-state North, South and East who didn't get the word.

Concur.
I'm not necessarily against that. If the SHTF, preppers have every right to protect their goods and deal with thieves and looters with whatever means necessary.
