An Ohio dad wanted to let his son’s elementary school know how frustrated his family is about Common Core math. Douglas Hermann from Painesville posted a picture on his Facebook page of a check made out to Melridge Elementary School with place value chart in place of the dollar amounts:
If you’re unfamiliar with this method of teaching math, check out this video of a little girl demonstrating how to add three-digit numbers using both the traditional method and the Common Core method:

Hermann also wrote on his Facebook page, “It’s sad when I can’t help my second grader do his math homework. Mental math and ten-frame cards? Common core sucks!”
The Ohio father said that he didn’t actually send the check to his son’s school, but rather, posted it on Facebook as “a slam on Common Core.”
He’s not the only parent sounding off about Common Core math on social media:
Tried to help my third grader do his basic math homework and showing the work but I can't because… #CommonCore

How come my BabyBoomer peers cannot help their grandkids with their #CommonCore math? MATH. We're NOT talking algebra here.

I had her memorize the multiplication tables this summer. I drilled her almost every day. #commoncore math is a nightmare. Conceptualist.

#commoncoremath Let the games begin
Hilarious
Common core arithmetic/math seems designed to prevent the students from learning basic functions. It complicates the simplest problems. Rote learning was used for centuries and worked very well for the vast majority of students. The “leaders” of the educational establishment thought they could improve what worked by replacing it with a counter-intuitive system that is clunky, unwieldy and confusing. Just like “whole word” language versus phonics.
Unfortunately, it’s the children who will pay for such idiocy. Both now and in the future.
Which is exactly what lawyers do. Exactly what bureaucrats do. Exactly what liberals do......
THIS is a nightmare and Bill Bennett and Jebbie should be ASHAMED of themselves for BACKING COMMON CORE!!!
The DUMBEST thing since new math.
WTG!!

A necessary step for the caste system that the Elites plan for us in the future. The lower castes will actually believe that they are inferior because they won’t know “their numbers and words” and the Bureaucrat and Elite castes will seem to be like a different species.
So, when the lower castes get told that they are to line up for eradication, they will do it like cattle in a slaughter pen.
Mr. Hermann....you aren't a good parent if you keep your child in this school.
I meant the check was hilarious. It was a brilliant form of criticism.
The way the girl added in the video was ridiculous. Who comes up with that stuff?
I think we should support Common Core Fully, So Much so that we should be Demanding it be taught in EVERY SCHOOL IN AMERICA, Private and Public. It will be repealed within 1 week if we subject the children of the Ruling Class to the same standards.
Gotta marvel at how these ‘educators’ perceive themselves as so brilliant that they can come up with ever new concepts that no one else can figure out to replace what anyone CAN figure out, easily. Our daughter was taught some form of ‘whole word’ language nonsense. She was one of the lucky ones. Figured out how to spell properly by 5th grade.
Is being a good parent WORTH not giving your kids a good education?? My parents made sacrifices to send us to Catholic schools, including driving 45 minutes each way, sometimes 2 or even 3 times a day!!
The sad thing is that this is just the newest way to hold our kids back in math. Thirty plus years ago when I ran fast food I would train new managers on taking inventory, I was really worried then when the people had to use a calculator for math I did in my head. When I look at the crap they are teaching to my grandson I want to scream.
Looks like a computing method used by a disturbed mind.
Maybe it was devised to divorce parents from being of any help to their kids.
Or to ensure job security for the educators trying to teach that madness
CC is nothing but government sanctioned child abuse.
To this day my 25 yo cannot spell worth shite thanks to the whole word concept.
The question 4 and 5 at the end of the post are truly moronic, even insane.
You have to do two additions or two subtractions by their method in order to do one subtraction, AND of top of that you have to use some rather sophisticated logic (base 10 number system) that’s more appropriate for a college course.
