For the Super Bowls golden anniversary, the NFL has asked a big name to return to the stage.
Bruno Mars has been offered the headliner spot for the Super Bowl 50 halftime show in Santa Clara, California, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Yeah. Seem a little underwhelming. I thought he did a good job and was really looking forward to his show when he got it last time. Seems like this one should be a showstopper....either a collection of past performers or a mega star. With all apologies to Bruno, he’s not in that category.
Check out the name of the author..bet he never heard this before..
Because, hey, when you think of a red-white-and-blue type who parallels 50 years of music alongside the growth of the NFL, NFL Films, and Sunday football culture in general you automatically think of a Johnny-come-lately Hawaiian, don’t you?
Isn’t this what caused us to be lumbered with Barky O’Drama?
I’m referring to it as Super Bowl L, it will annoy Goddell.
I would like to see Weird Al.
I would actually watch a Super Bowl if they had Weird Al perform at halftime.
Bring back “Up With People”
That would be the Super Bowl where the Dodgers take on the Bruins...
Wow..who won?
Who cares, it would sure be one for the record books though.
Ha! I never got Wierd Al when I was in high school. Thought he was too dorky to listen to. My teenage kids, however, think he is awesome. They’ve won me over. His parodies are the only music we can all enjoy.
The Bears, of course.
Can someone explain to me how the NFL is calling this their “golden” year? I understand it’s Super Bowl 50, the golden anniversary of the first Super Bowl and all that.
But the NFL was founded in 1920. Are they trying to tell us that the NFL really started in 1966, climaxed by the first Super Bowl, which was played on Jan. 15, 1967???? Are they ignoring NFL history before the Super Bowl???
As you likely know, the first “Superbowl” was actually Superbowl III — the first two were called the NFL-AFL Championship at the time they were played.
Yep, I knew that what we now call “Super Bowl I” was not called that at the time the game was played.
As I recall, Pete Rozelle didn’t like the name “Super Bowl”. But then he embraced the name and decreed that the games be designated with Roman numerals.
But then this year, instead of “Super Bowl L”, we are told that this is “Super Bowl 50” without a Roman numeral designation. Why did the NFL abandon the Roman numerals this time? Do they think the people are so dumbed down that they would think it’s a letter L instead of the number 50 in Roman numerals????
If this year's championship game were to be called Superbowl L, they'd expect next year's to be Superbowl M!
LOL, could be!!!
Yep, I have wondered if they even teach Roman numerals in schools nowadays. And if not, many young people wouldn’t understand the Super Bowl numbering system.
Goodell doesn’t care. It was the graphic arts department that couldn’t figure out how to make the L look good.
This year. It’s the Disney model. Figure out a way this year is one of those nice round numbers (founding of the company, first feature length movie, broke ground on Land, opened Land, broke ground on World, opened World, most popular movie released...) and push that. Guarantee 2020 will be a big celebration too. Of course before that is 2019, 50 years of MNF. And next year, as you point out, is 50 years of the merger. Just gotta figure out 2017...
