The US dentist whose killing of Cecil the lion fuelled a global backlash has emerged for an interview and says he will return to work on Tuesday.
Walter Palmer has disputed some accounts of the hunt, expressed agitation at the animosity directed at those close to him and says he will be back at work within days.
Palmer, who has spent more than a month out of sight after becoming the target of protests and threats, intends to return to his suburban Minneapolis dental practice on Tuesday.
In an interview on Sunday conducted jointly by The Associated Press and the Minneapolis Star Tribune that advisers said would be the only one granted, Palmer said again that he believes he acted legally and that he was stunned to find out his hunting party had killed one of Zimbabwe's treasured animals.
"If I had known this lion had a name and was important to the country or a study obviously I wouldn't have taken it," Palmer said.

That inconvenient truth doesn't matter here. Only what these images convey to urban, hand-fed modernists matters. For that, you'll need to consult the usual suspects in media, entertainment and academe.

It wouldnt be wise to provoke a dentist, at least until the procedure is finished.

I've killed plenty of turkey's, deer, squirrels and fish in the last plenty of years...!
I feel so horribly grotesque!

“Theyre about the size of shock collars for dogs if the pictures online are accurate.”
I guess the question to be answered is - did Palmer know about the collar when he had the picture taken or after the picture was taken? You would think that they found the collar *after* the picture was taken, as the guide indicated they were both upset once they saw the collar on the lion, and I don’t think Palmer would have been smiling at that point. Or maybe he would.
I think Palmer’s honesty is certainly an issue to consider, given his shooting a bear in a prohibited area, attempting to bribe the guides, and then lying to USF&W about where the bear was shot. Nice role model for his kids.

I’m not really concerned about his past or who he is. What I am concerned about is the way so many piled on (visciously) without really understanding the whole issue, or any big game hunting for that matter. Bam! Kill the guy and save the animals. Wow! The toll of urban living and controlled media ideas is paying off hansomely - even here on FR.

Lions are so friendly....

Hmmmm... He killed a lion. A creature that would typically rip you limb from limb and eat you. So the problem is what exactly?

I hope this story has played itself out....otherwise we’re going to be re-condemning this guy every week.
It’s like an oscillating redundancy.

my husband went hunting in mid Michigan every year...a bunch of guys went to the same place every year...they didn't get too many deer, but one of the guys got a bear that was up on 2 legs heading for him...they took the carcass into town and hung it...the following year they had taken the bullet out of the deer (depart. of whatever) and found the guy hunting came and cleared the fellow of charges of killing the bear... They had even tracked down to where the bullets were bought..Several of the guys were all on one side of the clearing and the one the bear went after was the only guy that had a gun....It was bow and arrow season. All of the men ate the venison if they were lucky enough to get one.. One of my son's fixes venison delicious....

People pay for guides because they don’t know the country, where the animals are and their habits. Also foreign countries don’t let you just walk into their country and start hunting. The guide is supposed to know where to take you , they are guides after all. This is how those people make their living. You have to have a license from the government.
In our own country you have to have property leased from the owner. There is public land but I am not sure how you get permission to hunt there but I am sure you do.
