When I wrote yesterday how Jeb calling himself a conservative while campaigning in Spanish was rather odd, evidently I wasn't the only one having that thought. Now Donald Trump has come out and challenged Bush to campaign in English while campaigning for the presidency of America, which, you know, is an English speaking country.
I like Jeb, Trump said. Hes a nice man. But he should really set the example by speaking English while in the United States.
El hombre no es conservador, Bush said in Spanish of Trump in Miami, according to theTampa Bay Times. That means, according to that newspaper, that Bush is saying of Trump: The man is not conservative.
There may be value in campaigning among Hispanics and speaking in Spanish. But in a campaign where illegal immigration, primarily illegal Hispanic immigration, is the primary issue, it strikes a raw nerve when a candidate who supports amnesty and opposes a border fence campaigns extensively in Spanish, which Bush has done multiple times.
It doesn't merely create the perception that Bush is more sympathetic to illegals than he is to US citizens; it reinforces it. But Bush is either unaware of appearances or simply doesn't care. So far he hasn't even had a token "Sister Soljah" moment where he has stood up and denounced the illegals who have raped and killed Americans, or spoken about the 50% who are on welfare. He won't retreat an inch from his blanket assertion that illegal immigration is an "act of love".
Keep in mind that it is not just our border that is being invaded, but our culture and yes, our very language. When we have neighborhoods in all our major cities, be it New York, Houston, Los Angeles, or Miami, where English is not spoken, and where we have kindergartens all over the nation, even in Iowa, where Spanish is the primary language, Bush appears culturally autistic to be campaigning in Spanish as much as he has.
Just think: if this were France, wouldn't it be odd if a candidate campaigned in Arabic? If this were Italy, wouldn't it be strange if a candidate campaigned in French? And now what if Italy were facing a flood of illegals from France, wouldn't campaigning in French be doubly strange?
Perhaps it would be different if Bush were tough on border security and illegals, like Ted Cruz. But with the baggage he's got, and his own history of calling himself "Hispanic", it's no wonder that Jeb is sinking to single digits in the polls.
Maybe Yeb push 2 for stupid!
Why should I vote for a candidate who campaigns in a language I don’t understand? How do I know what promises he’s making when he campaigns in that language?
If he’s running for President of the USA, then he needs to communicate in the language that ALL US citizens understand, so that they can evaluate him properly. Otherwise, he’s a fraud.
Trump is on Kuhner a lot and Jeff talks to his team a great deal....
The Kuhner Report is a good show. He’s one of the Good Guys.
Welcome to FR, Jan!
I'd love to know how many are listening in the other 48 states outside WRKO's 2 state region, MA & NH that I think is their daytime wattage range ( local listeners correct me if I am wrong here)...
I listen online. He is very good and I really appreciate his coverage of the candidates and the issues.
