My initial thought regarding that clerk was that she should either do her job and issue licenses to gay couples, or quit as a matter of conscience.

But then I wondered...if other religious groups get exemptions, then so should she. And I'll bet other religious groups do get those exemptions.

While reading about that clerk, a thought occurred to me. Suppose a devout Muslim was a cook at a government cafeteria.

I think she should stand firm and force them to recall her. It would be hilarious if they tried to recall her and failed.

Courage of one’s convictions never used to make news.

Does not matter muslims are another protected class, laws, policy and regulations only applies to WASP’s, they will always be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the progressive liberal democrat/rino communist uni-party’s law.

My guess is the court will fine her a crazy amount per day to bankrupt her.

I hope your question about the muslim cook and pork chops is a rhetorical question. I think we all know the answer.

I would imagine the cook would be allowed to forego handling the pork, and would be assigned some other job that day.

But that’s not quite what’s going on here. This clerk is not only not handling marriage licenses herself, she’s preventing anyone else in the county clerk’s office from doing so.

So, a more analogous situation would be this: Suppose a devout muslim became head of a count DMV office, and had a religious belief that women should not be permitted to drive. Would it be OK if women could not obtain drivers licenses at that DMV office?

No. Let us not suppose that 2000 years of societal behavior and legal practice are the exact same thing as a Muslim cook.

Let us stop floating these nonsensical false equivalencies.

Look at it this way.

If that muzzie was permitted to DENY handling the pork products, but later told to handle them or else be fired, would he have a case?

You bet your Obama he would.

And Kim Davis has an even stronger case as he is still follow the LAW. And not some unconstitutional coirt opinion.

Given they changed the definition of marriage after she was employed, one would think she could be grandfathered in.

Failed analogy.

The muslim manager takes the job selling products he is supposed to which doesn’t include pork products.
Then the Supreme Court rules he must sell pork products.

“Civil disobedience” is a valid and useful strategy. Of course it can go too far, and as the courts stray further and further from their job it will.

Here’s another thought. Suppose this country had hard and fast LAWS against immigrating to this country without permission, using fraudulent documentation in order to work and receive tax benefits, and demanding that others speak the foreign language of the immigrant. Do you suppose that the chief administrator of the law enforcement function should be able to unilaterally opt out of obeying and enforcing these numerous federal laws? Oh, wait....

She is what I consider a true radical as the left used to consider a radical, ie. stand up for principal. I have an old lefty buddy (68 yrs. old) who still considers himself a “radical”. I tell him he’s just another “kneepad establishment follower”, towing the MSNBC line. Really does rankle him.

I’ve had muslim clerks ring up sausage and bacon at WalMart. For awhile there were several working at the checkouts, now they all work elsewhere in the store. Perhaps to avoid that situation?

Don’t look for logical consistency here.

These days, Christians get f***ed, Moslems get a free pass.

We have Indian students who are vegetarians who handle meat in the cafeterias. It’s part of the job. You do the job or you don’t take the job.

Here’s a scenario that’s a bit closer.

Suppose a Wiccan was the county clerk and refused to issue any hunting or fishing licenses.
No suppose other employees said they would issue hunting and fishing licenses but the Wiccan clerk said no, since the clerks name would be on the license.

So now no hunting or fishing licenses will be issued by that particular office period.
People can still get a license from another county provided they’re willing to drive to the next county.
However they do pay taxes to the county to hire a clerk to issue licenses that they are now being refused.
