Donald Trump says he has great affection for Ben Carson, but hes not so sure Carson has the right experience to be president.
The billionaire businessman and Republican presidential frontrunner explained why in an extensive interview with The Daily Caller that covered a wide array of subjects. The interview will be published in sections over the coming days.
A Monmouth University poll of Iowa released Monday showed Trump tied with Carson for first place though Trump is quick to note that it was just one poll and that he leads the field, including Carson, in all the other recent polls.
But despite the rising threat of Carson in Iowa, Trump has not yet attacked the world-renowned neurosurgeon. Asked by TheDC whether being a doctor provides the necessary experience to be president, Trump said while Carson is a wonderful guy, he thinks it would be very tough for someone who spent his life as a surgeon to handle the job.
I think its a very difficult situation that hed be placed in, Trump elaborated. Hes really a friend of mine, I just think its a very difficult situation that he puts himself into, to have a doctor who wasnt creating jobs and would have a nurse or maybe two nurses. Its such a different world. Ive created tens of thousands of jobs over the years.
In the past Trump has questioned whether Ted Cruz is eligible to be president because the Texas senator was born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father. Cruz and Trump have since become something like BFFs on the campaign trail, refusing to criticize each other and even scheduled to appear together at an upcoming rally in Washington against the nuclear deal with Iran. Asked whether he still thinks Cruz might not be eligible to be president, Trump said, based on everything I see, theres no problem.
Because other people have brought it up, and it seems like the legal scholars have all been satisfied, he went on. It was never a big point for me, but I have watched other people question him, and the legal scholars have been satisfied.
President Barack Obama has been criticized by many Republicans, including Trump, for his regular golf outings. But would Trump, who is an avid golfer and owns many golf courses throughout the world, regularly hit the links if he makes it to the Oval Office?
The problem with the president, hes played more than people on the PGA tour, Trump quipped. He plays a lot. Hes like a touring professional in terms of the amount of play.
Golf can be a great tool for making deals, but you cant play with your friends, you have to play with people that youre looking to for instance, playing with [House Speaker] John Boehner and playing with [Senate leader Mitch] McConnell and playing with people that you need to make deals with, Trump argued. It can be an amazing tool for getting things done and for making deals.
With that being said, you want to play it the proper number of times, he went on. If the president would use golf as a tool more than he does, I think it would be very positive.
Trump often cites how rich he is as a sign of his success and, in turn, a qualification to be President of the United States. By that standard, would someone richer than him, like Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, be more qualified for the presidency?
Thats different, Trump replied. Honestly, I dont think Id swap assets, to be honest with you. Ive seen that stuff go up and down. I have very, very solid stuff. To me, I love real estate because you can feel it. A lot of people, theyll make five hundred million dollars by doing some new computer game, but I dont consider that I consider that sort of different. I consider that paper.
I did it in real estate, he explained, and as real estate goes, this is about as high as you go.
“Doctors don’t create jobs, crooked businessman making payoffs to politicians and stealing other peoples land through eminent domain make jobs!”
lol
Facebook is a front for the CIA.
How many other businesses would’ve succeeded if they had the CIA backing them?
“do you want a president creating jobs? like at SOLYNDRA perhaps??”
Yes they do. Trump thinks the Oval Office gets final say on all international business dealings. FDR put little csars controlling industries, I think Trump wants them in the board rooms.
Lawyers would disagree!
Having read several of Trump’s books, he advocates for getting rid of crippling government regulations, lowering corporate taxes to 0%, and incentivizing companies to return to the U.S. By getting rid of Obamacare and returning healthcare to the private sector, we can have a business and manufacturing friendly environment again.
> “Hes really a friend of mine, I just think its a very difficult situation that he puts himself into, to have a doctor who wasnt creating jobs and would have a nurse or ***maybe two nurses***. Its such a different world. Ive created tens of thousands of jobs over the years.”
Trump acknowledged Dr. Carson had a few assistants.
There’s a difference between tens of thousands of jobs and a few assistants. The first is statistically significant. The second is statistically zero.
Trump is right.
And yes Trump can create millions of jobs for Americans by negotiating trade deals that spur new industries or expand existing ones. He can also stop the hemorrhaging of American jobs going to foreign countries.
But you are tone deaf as to what is happening in this country re: Trump.
This is a revolution.
Trump will not fail because we will not fail.
This is not just a tea-party revolution.
This is an American revolution.
Doctors are pikers who just save lives.
Who needs em.
0bamaCare needs to cut your wanker off....;-)
What’s dat?
Facebook is a front for the CIA?
Give us a source for dat, dude.
Or just resign your FR name out of shame.
“to have a doctor who wasnt creating jobs and would have a nurse or maybe two nurses.”
First really dumb thing I’ve seen Trump say.
Dumbuh
Mark Zuckerberg is literally worth five times more than Donald Trump. He also did it without the benefit of large inheritances, eminent domain, and multiple corporate bankruptcies to bail himself out of poor decisions.
In short, he’s more of a self-made man than “The Donald” could ever dream of being.
Uhh, Donald, since you apparently don’t understand conservatism at all, I’ll let you in on one of its most important tenets: Government does NOT create jobs either.
Trump keeps bragging that he will be the “greatest jobs President ever”. What needs to happen is that the federal government needs to be scaled back, and Ben Carson is every bit as “qualified” to do that as Trump is.
Carson might not but the economic ideas he has discussed would. Donald doesn’t like people catching up to him.
Don’t have the link handy, but it’s been discussed on FR before.
Brilliantly fiendish, if you think about it ... instead of wasting all that time and effort trying to pry personal information out of unwilling people, they just set up a site where people can freely (and willingly) brag about all their personal info ... law enforcement finds it very hand too
That doesn’t seem like the worst attack in the world. Just a reasonable comment that a person can agree or disagree with. Whatever.
Every single presidential candidate this cycle and the last and the one before that has promised to "create jobs". This is not unique to Trump.
Yeah, Dr. Carson has just been doing life and death kind of stuff. Nothing as big as creating a business.
(However, the docs I know, do have to be good business people in order to run their practices. Which are businesses...)
President HELPS create jobs with tax incentives to businesses who create jobs, reduce regulations on small businesses, make better deals in foreign trade so we do not have chronic trade deficits, avoid waste of resources on unnecessary wars, etc. Trump has the right agenda on all such issues.
My wife is about to retire from a lifelong career running medical practices in every capacity, from front desk, coding, medical tech, billing manager and office manager. From her experience the waste in doctor’s offices is gut wrenching. No wonder doctor’s visits cost so much now compared to just 30 years ago.
