Adopt a pitbull, they are so misunderstood. (Vanity)

I know some on FR have a bias against Pit Bulls, but they are the nicest animals on Earth, IMO.

Also I will probably get banned for stating this, but the crazy liberal Huffington Post should be congratulated for their advocacy of pit bulls.

I am a Trump/Cruz leaning conservative, but don't understand the hatred against this breed.

When your pitbull turns on you and you get ‘et’, don’t come running to FR to post about your victimhood.

Pit Bulls are noted for maiming and disfiguring children. They have huge, powerful jaws and they clamp, grind and do not let go. This is why I consider them to be dangerous.

AKC breeder here.

The American Staffordshire Terrier(AKC breed name) were bred for the purpose, like ALL Terriers, to fight or kill other animals. In their case the were bred to fight bulls. Hence the name bull terrier. They would fight these bulls in pits and eventually the name pit bull terrier became their common name.

Like all dog breeds through the ages, some have changed from their original purpose. The fact that the pit bull terrier could bite with incredible force was purposed to hang onto a bull’s nose so that it could not be shaken free. This trait was further purposed by humans to fight other dogs and kill them for sport. There were breeders over the years that would select the dog/bitch with the most extreme of these aggressive characteristics and kill the omega of each litter. Typically they would let the most aggressive, kill the least aggressive. Thus many of the pit bulls today exhibit these extremely aggressive traits.

It is my opinion that there are some good Bull Terriers available. However, there are today a much higher percentage of aggressive and dangerous dogs of this breed.
You may just get a good one. However, this breed can be extremely dangerous because of its size and biting strength. By bringing one into your home you are taking a chance not only with your own family, but the potential of harm to friends and others. This can lead to lawsuits, or at its worst disfiguring a child. Personally, I would not want that on my conscience.

There are many other breeds of dog I would personally chose to bring into my home. There are also many others I would not.

Breeder of AKC Champion Beagles.

Pit-bull ownership is irrationality personified.

I have been around two pitbulls and they were amazing and wonderful.

They are César Millan’s favorite breed and he’s The Dog Whisperer so he should know.

Commonsense though. Large, strong dogs should only be owned by folks who know how to train and handle dogs.

I'd never trust one I didn't raise from a puppy.

Adopt an older pit, ah hell no!

I had a boxer who was very friendly like that, LOL. But Boxers have a reputation as sweet slobs who fart and snore. Not hazardous reputation like pits.

“But Boxers have a reputation as sweet slobs who fart and snore.”

In my experience, pits are the same way, about 99% of the time.

It’s the other 1% of the time that gives the bad reputation.

They sure are! we would have one now but they aren’t suited for townhouse living and need more exercise that we can provide. There have been reports here...Wheeling Downs is nearby...where people have adopted them and neglected them. Chaining them where they can start to run but when they get up to speed the leash runs out.

Also people walking them or keeping them outside in Western Pennsylvania Winters.

If we decide to go back to a house with a fairly large yard we intend to try for one.

My stepson has had a female pitbull for many years. Not malicious and good with his very young kids, but also very strong and not terribly well-behaved. Never gets mad, but doesn't always obey "get down" commands right away.

I do worry that dog might have a bad day some time, and something might happen.

In a mid-Atlantic state in the early nineties, a five-year-old was walking in a quiet retail parking lot. Two put bulls jumped out of the back of a pick up truck and tore him to shreds. The boy died in the ER, where he was the first patient if the first day in the job of a health professional I knew.

When the owner of the truck returned, the dogs were happily greeting him, but covered in blood

We're I a dictator, I would have ordered that man dipped in molasses and given to an insanely hungry grizzly bear.

Just yesterday, I witnessed in a campground two pits going after their owners over a dog treat. They were raging, snarling monsters. You can't reason with these owners.

Not only do I loathe these dogs, I despise their owners, who are often cowardly men and women who like owning a dangerous dig because it makes them look tough.
