TV actress Melody Patterson, best known for playing Wrangler Jane on F Troop, died Thursday at the age of 66. Patterson died in a nursing home after multiple organ failure, according to reports.
In addition to her starring role on F Troop from 1965-1967, Patterson appeared on other television shows of the era including The Monkees, Adam-12 and Green Acres. She was also in a handful of episodes of Hawaii Five-O, which featured her husband at the time, James MacArthur.

Melody was hot! And lately I have come to.appreciate ladies of 60’s TV. Barbara Eden, Marlo Thomas (That Girl) Lori Sanders (Petticoatt Juction brunette), Donna Reed, Ginger and Marianne, Julie Lipton (Mod Squad), and alot of others I am forgetting right now. It is difficult to choose a favorite, they are all gorgeous. I just saw Melody a couple of hours ago on F Troop, decided to google search her when I was reading credits, to see what she was up to these days. Then saw that she had passed hours ago. What awful timing. I will never look at F Troop the same way again..,....man, she was way too long to pass on. I will always see her as that beautiful teenage girl known as “Wrangler Jane”. Farewell Melody.
Your dad and any man with a pulse. Probably without a pulse too ;)
I always laughed when A-garn would remove his trooper hat and start swatting the daylights out of dobbs and whomever else pissed him off.Good stuff.
Supposedly she claimed to be 18 and lied about her age a bit. It wasn’t such a big deal in 1965, and she never really did a romantic scene with the Captain, so they might have known.
Mila Kunis, for one, fibbed about her age far more recently.
Underage actresses have always been in demand in Hollywood.
Have you notice that they don’t play the theme song with words anymore, just the melody..............
I was really little when F Troop was on the air, so I really didn’t like it. I discovered it in the 80s on Nick at Nite or something like that, I thought it was good but I liked Gilligsn’s island better when it was first run, maybe because my childhood brain got some more of it.
Oh yes, and Jeannie. I loved Jeannie. To me, Larry Hagman was always Tony Nelson not JR Ewing.
Those shows from the 60s are pure gold. Most of the stuff today is unwatchable.
RIP. Wrangler Jane.
Didn’t Jack Benny make a career lying about his age? He was 39 forever.
He was in several episodes of "Car 54, Where Are You?" as Charley the drunk. I also remember seeing him in an episode of "All In The Family" playing a high school friend of Archie's who comes to town for a visit.
The second season did not feature the lyrics to the theme song - but it did have a great Mort Drucker caricature which opened the show. Sadly, it only had two seasons - the first season, in black and white, being the best. Luckily, ME TV often plays it. Larry Storch is putting up nice photos of Jane/Melody on his Facebook page this morning.
Larry would do his famous stand-up act on Car 54 - talking so much about booze that he would actually get drunk just talking about it. He did it on other shows as well. He also was an impressionist (as was his brother) and would coach actors in it.
He was also in “The Abominable Snowman” with Peter Cushing
RIP.
So weird, you just referenced her yesterday in the thread about favorite military shows...
I think I read somewhere that she was 15 or 16 when she was on F Troop.
Good show. It rates right up there with “Mister Ed” and “Car 54 Where are you?”
She actually died on Thursday, Aug 20th. However, I didn't know this when I posted yesterday.

Re: F-Troop
One of my favorites at the time too.
Partly because of...
Melody Patterson as Wrangler Jane in F-Troop

No, I didn't know that. Sad.
And weird, because several months ago something made me wonder what the actress who played the young daughter on the Beverly Hillbillies was up to these days (Elly May Clampett/Donna Douglas). Hadn't thought about her for decades. Wasn't even a big fan of the show, or of her (didn't dislike her for any reasons). Anyway, turned out she had died just the day before. Now this.
