Judge: ‘I Have A Little Trouble With’ Tom Brady’s Four-Game Suspension

Tom Brady had a solid practice against the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday, according to those on hand in West Virginia, but it seems he had an even better day in court — even though he wasn’t there. “Colts did better against Pats than the NFL did (Wednesday) against (NFL Players association attorney) Jeff Kessler,” Yahoo! Sports’ Dan Wetzel tweeted after the hearing concluded at the U.S. District Court in New York. Wednesday “was more of a blowout than the AFC Title. Kessler all but dropped the mic at the end,” Boston Herald legal columnist Bob McGovern tweeted after witnessing the hearing. One of U.S. District Court Judge Richard Berman’s biggest points of contention with the NFL is how league commissioner Roger Goodell, who also wasn’t present, decided on a four-game Deflategate suspension for Brady. “I have a little trouble with (Goodell deciding on four games),” Berman said, according to CSNNE.com’s Tom E. Curran. Goodell compared deflating footballs to steroid use in his letter upholding Brady’s four-game suspension.

How can you compare I guy who didn’t deflate a football with a guy who ingests steroids himself in his own body.
Steroids are a banned substance and against the law except by physician prescriptions.

Drop the case. Bye the way why are we not taxing the NFL to pay down the deficit?

The whole case against Tom Brady was phony from the start.
It started with dishonest leaks to the media, the phony Wells Report and the phony “generally aware” accusation.

Then came the refusal by Brady to give up his cell phone. The is nothing in the collective bargaining agreement that requires a player to surrender his cell phone. Brady was right not to give up his personal info.

Hopefully, the judge is starting to see through the NFL dishonesty and will disallow all penalties.

It will be great to see the Patriots with Brady against the Steelers in the season opener.

This is so stupid. There is cheating on EVERY PLAY in football, and some of this cheating (pushing off, holding) actually determines outcomes of games. But I’ll admit, this is a far more serious issue that Ray Rice punching out his wife.

If he surrendered his phone, every lurid e-mail of his would be featured in the tabloids!

They and their fans deserve it.
Grown men playing a children’s game does not deserve a docket in our courts alongside actual problems.

So far, the $50,000 fine proscribed in the rules has morphed into $1,000,000, a draft pick, and a four game suspension. When will these penalties be levied on the other four teams caught breaking the same rule in the last two years? (Jets, Colts, Packers, Vikings)

Brady jock sniffers at it again. After first court meeting the sniffers all hailed Brady’s great performance and the Judges leaning toward him. Then we learned Brady is willing to accept a suspension but not for cheating, pnly for obstruction. Question is what’s to obstruct if you are not guilty and WHY did pats pay the fine if they did nothing wrong?

Brady’s rep is shot at this point and the longer he drags this out the worse he looks. As of now over 70% of NFL fans believe he was involved in the cheating and as we all know perception is reality.

All Brady’s past accomplishments are being called onto question as will his future ones. And all the jock sniffers, like this author are beside themselves because the object of their fantasy has lost his luster.

Did they obstruct an investigation? Was there even an investigation? Where 11 of 12 balls grossly under inflated? Is there video of equipment guys taking balls into bathroom?

Just askin’

If correct, I think the NFL is in trouble. They could have at least hung their hat that the suspension was based on cover-up or some other BS. But what I have read, the report never proved the allegations and the NFL admitted as much in court.

However, Brady maybe screwed because even if the Judge rules in his favor the NFL can ignore. I think this was acknowledge in court.

Yeah well ... meaningless. I’ve had more than one Judge say “I have a problem with ...” and ultimately rule the other way.

If anyone ever finds a way to read the tea leaves from judicial comments they will make a fortune.

Minnesota and Green Bay caught heating balls on the sidelines, issued a warning. Jets caught deflating balls for kicker, the two equipment guys were let go. The Wells Report shows that 3/4 of the Colts’ balls were also under inflated and never corrected.

Has Goodell come out and mandated that the refs provide and maintain all game balls now?

Only 3 of colts balls were tested while 11 or 12 of pats balls were and by two different methods..... All failed. Brady and Oats are guilty as sin. NO ONE pays a million bucks and gives up draft picks in the NFL if they’re innocent and no QB suddenly becomes best buds with equip mgrs they haven’t spoken too in yrs, not to mention having film and audio all but sealing their guilt.

You Brady worshippers will never admit wrongdoing but the club is always enmeshed in one controversy or another. They are the Black Sox of the NFL.

Besides they haven’t won the big game in over 10 yrs and last yr was a fluke since Seattle handed pats the victory on the worst play call in NFL history.

Actually, the prescribed fine is either 8k or 5k.

Clarification. The player fine is 5k or 8k. If the team did it deliberately - which they were exonerated of - the fine would be 25k.

1) this guy isn’t a Pats fan.

2) you got pretty much every objective fact wrong. The months of lying by the NFL misinformed a lot of people who didn’t dig in to the details. Even those who did were mislead by outright and clear misrepresentation by the league when they held the transcripts sealed. The leak on the settlement was from the league, and appears to - again - have no basis in reality.

The NFL has already stated under oath that there’s no evidence of Brady involvement in any conspiracy to deflate footballs. They are arguing that even wrong, Goodell has the authority to impose punishment and that the court can’t challenge that.

Wells has also conceded that they are only arguing about .1-.2 PSI, with unknowns much larger than that.
