Windows 10 splits opinions and it has split mine. I think Microsoft Microsoft nailed the core OS, but the policies around it are controlling and overly invasive. In short: great software, shame about the rules. And here’s another perfect example…
Now Windows 10 has launched, Microsoft is starting to fill in the blanks regarding features removed from Windows 7 and Windows 8 and it doesn’t make for pleasant reading. Why? Because behind this free upgrade are the first signs of where Microsoft will start charging users in future and it begins at the very bottom:

Microsoft is not looking at the long term. this will open the door to another operating system or people will just move over to apple or an open door system like ubontu.

I think the big question for many users will soon be, what is the best Linux platform to upgrade Windows 10 to? That is, one that offers the good stuff that Windows had, but without all the intrusive bloatware, invasiveness, and irritating stupid that Microsquish wants?
Some years ago, a rocket surgeon had the brilliant idea of a refrigerator that could access the Internet. Not once did it cross the mind of anyone involved that there is absolutely no reason to access the Internet from your refrigerator.

I think they are trying to be more like Amazon. . . Apple doesn't charge subscriptions for software. The only thing Apple's even trying to charge a subscription for is streaming music service. So far Microsoft is trying to rent Office and now games and a DVD playing software?
Just use the OS only. Use other apps in place windows apps. They are free and work better...no spyware like MW.

How many people really need Solitaire, or even use it?
DVD players? Heck, I’ve had it in Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1. and I’ve never used it. I prefer other ‘free’ options, like VLC?
Apps or applications, when included, get people hooked, and now that Microsoft is playing the same game that Apple and Google and all other apps creators have been playing for many years, people are going to call Microsoft greedy and sneaky and a bait-and-switch artist?
All of us are hypocrites if we can expect that Microsoft will just give away the store, and not expect anything in return. Windows 10 is free, and that’s easily a $100-$500 piece of software. Linux is ‘free’, but, to be productive with it, you’ll have to pay. OSX is ‘free’, but, you’ll be paying a much higher price for the device, which is just another way of saying that, Mac prices include the cost of the OS when the device is purchased. iOS is free, but then, you’ll be paying for the privilege of using the millions of apps which are not free and which you might find worthwhile; same with Android apps, where the OS is free, but not really.
Since when have people expected that, everything in life shold be free? Windows OS is ‘free’, but, there will be costs to get the apps that weren’t included for ‘free’. Who woulda thunk it?
Cry me a river. You wanted a less bulky Windows, and you got it. Now, pay for the stuff that was taken out so that you would have a much better experience with the OS performance.

I don’t care who wrote it. It has already been laughed off as hyperbole on multiple blog sites. Posting it here was just stupid flame-bait.
You made me laugh heartily. Win 10 sucks wind. I just spent four days dealing with online MS chat trying to make a mail connection and then trying to restore links for a return to Win 8.1. It was amusing watching the techs run around to different places on my computer messing with the registry in remote mode. They didn’t have a clue! I finally managed to solve my own problems using deductive reasoning and the managed to back out of Win 10. I haven’t the foggiest idea how that happened. Fast O/S? Guffaw! My machine was no faster loading after boot than it did with the 8.1 installation from ASUS. At least all the bloatware functioned as advertised on that machine. Not so with Win 10.
I’m moving to another O/S but it won’t be Config.sys Autoexec.bat Linux. I’ve begun my investigation into Apple as for the average user they have no other competition. MS screwed the pooch on this one and as machines with MS on them die Apple, so far, is the only choice. This from a guy who has been with MS since the beginning. CP/M excepted.
Then post those rebuttals. . . don't attack me.

That is both true and false. While I have seen software that I have written for windows 3.1 still chugging along just fine on windows 7 drawing beautiful color graphs and tables on modern printers, I have had to deal with the newest windows version totally breaking legacy apps through no fault of the code as they decided to change api functions, dlls, totally drop objects, and even drop technology. I still have a tremendous amount of legacy apps and activex in use scattered all over the world, and I am terrified to get the butchers bill of how many things are going to suddenly stop working when windows 10 starts getting loaded. You can’t just fix 30 years of programs in 20 countries overnight
Oh, and Koiky, if a Mac user still needs an antique DVD drive, you buy any external USB DVD drive the market for $15 and up, plug it in, and the software is already installed and doesn't require a monthly subscription to use. . . and if you want to make a DVD that software is on the OS X Mac already, too.
