Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel, at a summit he convened last Wednesday on open government, stressed that Wisconsin's public records laws must not be weakened.
At the same time many of you were contacting elected representatives on Independence Day weekend, you were urging us to keep investigating until we found out who was responsible.
We've been doing just that with the aid of our open records law. On the same day Schimel held his open government summit, we reported on a new batch of emails.
They show it was Gov. Scott Walker and staff who added language exempting "deliberative process" documents from public records. This would have allowed elected representatives and bureaucrats to bury records revealing lobbying, opinions, analyses, recommendations, negotiations, suggestions and other notes that precede a decision.
No one had a whiff of what Walker, Vos and a few other party leaders were planning to do to the open records law until they inserted it into the state budget, at the last minute, on the night before a holiday weekend. We now know they had been working in secret on the changes for weeks, if not months.
You halted their plan.
When the public roared against limiting records access, Gov. Walker said it "didn't come from us."
The move appears to be no more than an attempt to avoid "political embarrassment," Esenberg said.
This is not a partisan issue. The people of Wisconsin want open, honest government.
It is not too much to ask. It is not too much to demand.

I once agreed with your assessment, but I have modified my assessment. The repetitive cry to authority in the form of the Milwaukee Journalist Sentinel is an advanced technique and it has worked with many posters. This may well be personal, but then that makes he/she/it a fraud to be sure.
If you had read the full article, you would have gotten a good summation of what the Open Records Laws do and what the attempted repeal would have done.
Walker has the record of fighting and winning against Democrats. We saw Madison Dems in fits of apoplexy and practically blind with rage over their inability to unseat that guy. Have we forgotten so soon? He does the one thing we ask of any Republican: he fights!

“Journal Sentinel is a Pulitzer prize winning publication”
Right. The JS, which was recently sold, has pretty much been relegated to a Daily Shopper status by its new owners. If they shrink it anymore it will be like a ten-cent comic book. This paper is completely irrelevant throughout the state. This paper is shutting down its distribution network like crazy. The Journal Sentinel’s circulation and ad revenue will hardly support their printing costs in the very near future. It won’t be long and they will be up side down and the new owners will turn it into a Weekly.
Shes already hinted that shes on the inside of some team, preparing the next Walker bomb.
Give it up. Walker put up with idiotic attacks before and won an election in a fairly liberal state...once...twice....three times. He’s got my vote. The man know how to win an election. We are required to win if we want to govern.
And when shes proven to have posted untruths she posts them again and again.
This guy is dirty and dishonest.

The Urinal Sentinel is a proven Democrat propaganda outlet. They didnt report, they actively participated in the fascist attacks on Walker - hint THEY ARE A UNION SHOP.
Hints have pointed at the Cruz team, but I would not be surprised to learn no connection whatsoever with Cruz. Democrat operative is my guess.
I gotta admit. Trolling is a little too easy on this sight sometimes. I took the bait too.
OTOH, Gov. Walker’s self-inflicted wounds make it seem as though he’s not ready for primetime. I think he’s a great governor but he and his staff would get eaten alive in DC. You midwesterners are too nice and too trusting and a lot of you still think you can be friends with liberals. Walker makes a lot of amateurish mistakes and he comes across as too moderate when he dodges issues or waits till he sees the writing on the wall before he makes a decision. That’s not leadership, but it’s how a republican stays alive in such a blue state.
An election commission found Walker guilty of campaigning a week early. A Quigley worker campaigned too close to polls. An unregistered Walker worker dropped literature at students doors. Walker lost campaign privileges in one Marquette facility, and lost a day of campaigning as another penalty.
The day before the election, the student-produced Marquette Tribune endorsed Quigley. That surprised Quigley, who expected that his rabble-rousing style would be frowned on. The paper, though, also said Walker was qualified.
That days newspaper became a limited edition, students told the Quigley campaign. Theyd seen Walker workers and/or College Republicans emptying editions of the Tribune from racks in high-traffic buildings, according to Quigley. Administrators soon got involved in the dustup.
"I heard by mid-day that people couldnt find it," Quigley told us. Tribune officials also complained to administrators.
Stung by the endorsement, Walkers camp plastered campus with an election-eve flier criticizing Quigleys political tactics.
It was gentle stuff, but the Trib took offense, publishing an election-day editorial headlined, "Walker unfit." It decried his "mudslinging" and said another factor in its reversal on Walker being qualified was the alleged theft of papers, which Walkers camp denied.
The next days vote wasnt close; Quigley won 1,245 to 947.
All you have to do is search “Wisconsin Open Records Laws Repeal Attempt”. While you’re at it , check out Walker’s WEDC.
This is widely reported fact for anyone interested in vetting a candidate.
I know how to find the Left wing attacks, they are bountiful.
Your assertion that it’s true is another question entirely.
Your argument is entirely and completely founded in these Democrat propaganda pieces. That is not the behavior of a conservative on a conservative forum. In fact your behavior is straight out of the Rules for Radicals.
What ever happened to Quigley, anyway. Oh, I remember, he was arrested and removed from his position in student government. You conveniently left that part out, didn’t you?
Context, based on the actual situation on the ground, is everything. Else, all you have is a screed like those who cherry-pick the Bible to tell us Jesus was/is a Democrat/commie/socialist.
The context is, he tried to repeal Open Records Laws 3 days before he announced his Presidential run. What’s he hiding?
