Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel, at a summit he convened last Wednesday on open government, stressed that Wisconsin's public records laws must not be weakened.
At the same time many of you were contacting elected representatives on Independence Day weekend, you were urging us to keep investigating until we found out who was responsible.
We've been doing just that with the aid of our open records law. On the same day Schimel held his open government summit, we reported on a new batch of emails.
They show it was Gov. Scott Walker and staff who added language exempting "deliberative process" documents from public records. This would have allowed elected representatives and bureaucrats to bury records revealing lobbying, opinions, analyses, recommendations, negotiations, suggestions and other notes that precede a decision.
No one had a whiff of what Walker, Vos and a few other party leaders were planning to do to the open records law until they inserted it into the state budget, at the last minute, on the night before a holiday weekend. We now know they had been working in secret on the changes for weeks, if not months.
You halted their plan.
When the public roared against limiting records access, Gov. Walker said it "didn't come from us."
The move appears to be no more than an attempt to avoid "political embarrassment," Esenberg said.
This is not a partisan issue. The people of Wisconsin want open, honest government.
It is not too much to ask. It is not too much to demand.

Apparently, the emails obtained by those who pursued an investigation say he did. I have been leery of Walker since finding out he cheated in an election in college at Marquette. The Marquette Sentinel declared him “unfit to serve” and endorsed his opponent who won.
Other than personal attacks, can you refute the truth of the article? Are you denying the attempt to repeal the Open Records Laws happened just days before Walker announced? Have you done a search to see if this occurred?
The standard operating procedure seems to be attack the messenger and hope that deflects from the message.

When trolling at least make sure you know what your doing. It’s the Milwaukee journal sentinel
So, Walker pulls a Slick Willie, trying to cover up his record and this makes anyone who brings it to light look bad?
If anybody else had done this, they would be criticized roundly, but Walker gets a pass? These are the ethics we should vote for?
So are:
The New York Times
The Washington Post
The San Francisco Chronicle
The Boston Globe
No, we should vote for Cruz if we’d like. Cruz is fantastic. But you make him look bad by regurgitating sleazy liberal attacks on his opponents.
Wow. This would make you support Walker? Why not just support Hillary? She’s a pro at this stuff.
Seem to recall a couple of names belonging to one of those “institutions” Walt Duranty..Guy named Jason Blair ? Paragons of their profession and their newspaper....
The time has come to call you what you are. I believe that you are a Democrat operative associated with the disgusting Democrat/Union cabal who have been attacking Scott Walker, including John Chisholm and his John Doe Witch Hunt.
You are very good, hardly some innocent conservative, conducting research to investigate the several Republican candidates for the 2016 election. Your posts about Cruz and Trump are decoys. Your target is Walker and your allies are the disgusting crowd attacking not just Walker, but our system of law, freedom, and system of government.
Your assertion that the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is a conservative paper is very cleaver. Certainly it was once upon a time, but no more and beyond a doubt not since George Stanley rose to chief editor in December, 1914. His fingerprints are all over conspiracies with John Chisholm related to John Doe. A Journal Sentinel reporter was present when the SWAT assault was launched at the home of Cindy Archer. One of the links here, explains what this paper has been doing.
You, of course, already know this. You are trying to deceive the members of this forum. I don’t have the time, nor the resources that you have. But, others will join with me and we will expose what you are doing Who knows who you are, some sympathetic teacher or something quite different, but I sincerely doubt that you are CONSERVATIVEJOY. Time will tell

I invite anyone else interested in this mystery to jump in.
Conservativejoy is playing a very sophisticated game, professional I would guess.

Get over yourself. You intellectual dishonesty robs you of any ability to be objective where your candidate is concerned. Scott Walker has been shady since the days he cheated in his college election. The Marquette Sentinel called him “unfit to serve”, and endorsed his opponent who won the election.
If he had not had a GOP legislature to do all the work, nobody would have ever heard of him.
Just saw where Walker slipped from double digits to 9% in the Fox Poll. Some folks are figuring it out.
I’ve never voted for a Democrat for anything in my life. I lived in Arkansas when Clinton was governor and was surrounded by Dems. I have been a lifelong Independent who has always voted Conservative.
I don’t understand why Walkerbots feel compelled to try to smear anyone who does not share their devotion to the most over rated candidate in this race.
I’ve read through the posts...
CJ could just as easily be a Pub with an ax to grind with Walker for some reason.
Perhaps they worked on an opposing campaign.
Perhaps they are related in some form or fashion to one of the convicted and feels betrayed.
Perhaps they are a former employee who got fired along the way.
The attacks on Walker feel personal, not professional. That’s my take. And it is that thought that leads me to the ‘scorned lover’ type options listed above.
But that same logic leads just as easily to your concern over them being a union operative. SEIU took his victories in WI exceptionally personally, and AFSCME wasn’t far behind in their level of vitriol.
The fact they purport to be backing Cruz concerns me. I hope they are not part of the Cruz campaign in any way at all ... staffer, volunteer, or advisor.
There is plenty of information out there on this. If someone has an article refuting the content of the post, I’ll certainly take a look at it, but the personal attacks and not providing any information that refutes the content of the article are just hollow whistling past the grave yard.
Can anyone on this thread refute the content of the article?
So far, no one has.
Perhaps some people just don’t like sleazy, dishonest politicians. Living my early years in Arkansas, I got a lot of practice sizing them up.
Ok, hombre, I’ll bite: suppose they did try to pass a law exempting certain records from this open door law. on the scaled of shite I give a rat’s ass about, this is barely one notch below what Trump’s son likes to hunt and one notch above what Christie likes for breakfasT.
A key point: they tried to pass a change to the open records law. Notice that he didn’t, oh, wipe a server clean, or stuff documents down his Jockey shorts. Trying to enact a policy position on an obscure statute that 99% of the public doesn’t know and doesn’t care about is quite legal, and not tantamount to treason. That the local liberal rag is bunched up about it frankly makes me feel better.
Quite informed aren't you, especially for someone who claims to just being some innocent conservative researching the positions of the candidates and discovered that Walker has an illegal immigrants. Unfortunately, every single of your talking points traces right back to some Left screed.
You are a fraud.
Why don’t you post what the Open Records law actually says, then post Walker’s supposed alterations and then we can finally decide whether or not your full of it?
The people of Wisconsin Cared Very Much. It was the backlash that ensued that made the legislature back track and remove the language from the budget deal.
Open Records Laws help prevent corruption. For that reason, they are very important. What he attempted is at least the equivalent of wiping a server clean. When you make all emails, correspondence, legislative deliberations at all levels completely shielded from public scrutiny, how is that different?
