...I stayed up to watch the end and now I'm going to sleep.
I enjoyed this, I think you will too.
"The Battle of Vienna"...historical drama, the Catholic Church and Renaissance Europe are threatened and outnumbered by the armies of Islamic jihad. Ran across it browsing, never seen it before. Pretty good.
Thanks for letting us know. Marking to watch later...
Battle of Vienna occurred on September 11th (and 12th) of 1683.
It was the battle that turned the tide against the Muzzies by the Christians.

That sounds like a king sized movie story, a Period Piece. One that would have to be filmed on several different locations. Today, the director has a choice of filming live, or using CGI imagery. You could create an advancing army of what looks like 200,000 soldiers, if that is what the director wants.
Of course too much CGI, and you get films like NOAH, starring Russell Crowe. NOAH was one of the last big movies reviewed by Roger Ebert. He did not like the giant rock people either.

Something I need at two in the morning.
Watch later. Thnx!
Have you notified our FRiend "Jan Sobieski"never mind, I just did... ;)
Thank you! Will watch!
Watched with keen interest ..... was stationed in Aviano Italy for 4 years and read about Marco , walked through the history of the region including World War II sites, Hannibal’s path through the dolomites etc.... regular drives up through Austria to Munich.... beautiful area.
Thanks for the movie suggestion.
Is that the one with F Murray Abraham? Not a great depiction (they tried to cram too much into too little time), but still a gripping story. Just the tale of Jan Sobieski and the Winged Hussars is edifying. And the Siege of Vienna was a pivotal point in the islamic invasion of Europe.

I liked it as it was, but they sure could have made an epic out of it. But still, very good, and it has a lot of positive affirmations for people of a conservative bent IMO.
And yes, it is a morality tale for the conservative cause. Sobieski had been snubbed by the elitists until the 11th hour, when, in their desperation, they begged for him to come. To his credit, dour and proud though he was, he brought his Hussars to the hill, and their amazing courage saved the day, which saved Vienna, which saved Europe from the islamic plague.
Without him, we might all be making fools of ourselves with our butts in the air five times a day.

...Got it....
Think I’ll watch it tonight.
