The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
Hell toupee was an episode from The Simpsons Tree House of Horror Halloween Specials.
I like those oranges better than Tropicana.
These are very high quality oranges.
*sigh*
Shannon just spewed.
Oh my.
Love kitties. Hate when they......
Poor Shannon.
She spews most mornings. Jake almost never does.
Poor Shannon. I guess it’s a tummy bug, not morning sickness.
No, Shannon will never have kittens. She just doesn’t chew her food at all.
Necronomicon...
Maizie Takes a Poop...
Tough call, that,
I was being silly. I knew Shannon was fixed.
Shannon, you have to chew your food.
I suppose she’d be even fatter if she kept all her food down.
...hell Toupee
There’s the name of The Donald’s third party: The Wigs.
That’s a good one!
Philistines!
I thought being a tutor would be a cool job until I realized eating beans was not involved.
Actually, I’ve done GED and computer skills tutoring for a local homeless shelter. It’s very personally fulfilling.
Run like a rabbit?
We had an inch of rain, right here, but three inches at Green Valley Ranch, which was the hardest hit area, about two miles from here. This was the worst hit area of the valley. Thunder and lightning for two hours, 27 power poles knocked down and massive amounts of flooding. Power was out to over 2000 people, but about half of that number now has electricity.
A shelter has been set up about a mile from here, and though I would like to go see some of the damage in the neighborhood, I will stay here. If I go anywhere, it will be to Walmart.
But, but, you have Harry Reid? How have his big government programs NOT controlled the weather?
Glad you’re OK.
Not my fault.
Although we had an inch of rain in the front yard, with winds of 60 mph, we didn’t suffer a power outage. The storm lasted two hours, and it was one of those where the thunder never seems to stop. One of my friends posted on FB that he had two lightning strikes in his back yard, and he lives less than a mile from me.
But that’s monsoons in the desert. They are usually fast moving, dump a lot of rain in only a small area, and cause and AWFUL lot of damage.
