The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
!
Yep, that is a much better system.
Infant= 1,2 (age, 5,6)
Primary= 3-6 (7-10)
Secondary (HS)= 7-11 (11-15)
Is just daft.
Good timing. :)
W00t!
Too late. I gotta shut down, as the storms look really wicked. I can play games on my Nook in the dark and read on my Kindle in the dark, so it’s OK if we have a power outage. Although, I really don’t like those, because the fans don’t work for some reason... ;o]
So I will see all y’all in the morning!
*smooches*
It will miss your location.
,night ,night. :)
No, it didn’t! LOL! Wind is up, thunder is louder, more often and uglier, and I’m shutting down! And here comes the rain!
Ta!
I was watching this time.
I prefer the junior high/high school system, but that could be just because that’s what I had in Virginia in the 1980s.
As for ages, they can start 1st grade at age 6, which means a student whose birthday is in the summer (like mine) completes the final year of secondary school at age 17 and turns 18 before starting college in the fall.
Stay safe
Unless they're your kids, in which case they're probably doing college work at fourteen.
Pat isn’t 14 yet.
However, other children who were advanced at earlier ages have tended to average out as they reached the late ‘teens. At least in the testable subjects: reciting sagas in Old Norse doesn’t help on the Central Piedmont Community College placement test.
Maybe Kathleen only gets an animal book when she goes in the potty? If she goes in her underwear she gets another kind of book?
Just thinking, a dangerous pastime.
Sure, we’ll read her the Necronomicon if she has an accident ...
Got a nibble on Tom as an SAT tutor. I said he’d phone them by Sunday evening.
Dry as a popcorn fart.
Will do.
Zatso?
What are you supposed to do when the theater really is on fire?
(In the case where that phrase originated, the fire was the growing Great War, and the court ruled that warning American was not protected speech!)
60 MPH winds and flooding?
I guess so!
LOL!
