A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Small is good the best things in life come in small packages!

Waiting for my new mattress from Bobs to come. My old mattress had springs coming out the bottom. It is ready to be retired. I’m getting one of those kind without springs. It’s a birthday holiday present from my folks but its going to be the only birthday / holiday present I get for the rest of the millennium.

I’m good with that. I just hate waiting for these men to show up......

I’m paying bills. I don’t know why I get so stressed over it every month; probably because I just watch it come in and the turn-around is about an hour. Maybe ninety minutes. *sigh*

I’ve decided I’ll go to the dollar store for some things. They open at 0800, so it will be a little warmer out by then.

And the gas pump handle won’t be so doggone COLD!

I would love a new mattress and box springs set, one that didn’t sag. I’m sure my lower back would love me for that. Some days, I’m so stiff when I try to get up that I have to sit on the edge of the bed for a few minutes. *whine-whine-whine*

I hope you sleep well tonight!!

I’ve needed one tor about two years now.

The springs started poking out in October nd that is when mom and dad said new mattress.

Those foam mattresses are supposed to be very good. My folks have them and say they are wonderful. They are just about 300 more in my case.

At least these guys are removing the old mattress and box spring. Hurray!

32 degrees.

Same here, and again tomorrow. I can’t get warm!

I just paid the electric bill online; it’s due today. Later I’ll go on a hunt for anything that’s misplaced!

Good idea. But finding misplaced electrons is a pain.

Still, it’s important. Those guys can cause a lot of trouble for being so small.

A tip. When you find one, don’t ask how fast it was going. It will tell you and then you’ll lose it again.

I won’t be warm again until late April. I’ve been wearing progressively warmer outerwear for the last three weeks. I’ve reached the max — industrial strength with a hood, zipper, storm flap, and “tie downs.”

And it’s not warm enough so I need to start wearing undershirts. *shiver*

If we pay online, the utilities charge $5 extra. GAH!

So I write checks for them. Dang. I didn’t get quarters. I’ll head for the Rebel station for them a little later. Walmart won’t do that. They will give me top price for my coupons, but won’t give me quarters in cash back. *grrrr*

Tomorrow morning I’ll go to Walmart and do the real shopping. I got plastic supplies (baggies) and a couple of food items that I needed, and came out with three bags, and only $15 poorer! And I forgot to get laundry detergent and paper towels... Ohwell. I can do that in the morning.

I need to walk up to the office and drop off the rent check. *ouch* It will go up next month and again in February. *sigh*

Tom is probably swiping some of the electrons and reselling them to get pizza money.

No, it doesn’t sound nuts. I can’t get warm, either. Winter stinks!

Partly, but because of CFIDS, my core temp is lower than 98.6...more like 96.5 - 97.8. So I’m cold even when the temp is around 85.

I’ve been here and in Tucson since 1980, and I don’t do well in colder climates.

Same here. I shudder even to think of a Boston winter. My last was in 1976.

My last cold winter was in Utah in 1981...we had moved back there from AZ, and before the spring was out, we were headed south again. The next winter was in Madera Canyon, south of Tucson.

I have a heated mattress pad that I wouldn’t part with for love nor money! If you don’t have one, get one!!! MUCH better than an electric blanket!

You will love yourself for the great idea! AND::: Get some flannel sheets. They are so soft and warm that you can’t help but want to stay in bed. I use them year round, because I have night sweats, and the sheets dry fast. Even in the winter!

I haven’t owned percale sheets in 20 years!
