The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
That just spoils the Â¥$â¬_fun_@&£¥$â¬. :)
LOL!
I don’t understand it, but it’s still funny... ;o]
Hi Face,
That was just three different currencies each side, makes a most satisfying mess. :D
Well, since Church services didn’t exist when Jesus was around I can understand some confusion. Modern Churches probably don’t resemble the descriptions in the book of Acts. But most people who say that really mean they have their own personal version of Christianity and it doesn’t really bear up under scrutiny so they avoid other Christians.
LOL!I LIKE it!
Basically, you’re right. One even went so far as to say that if he wanted to, he could pray (or meditate, etc.,) “under that tree over there.”
He’s right. But then again, I don’t know that the Lord ever put restrictions on where we could pray, just that we should.
Afternoon. It’s been chilly and rainy all day. Might clear up tomorrow and Friday, and then storms on Saturday. Looks like the air show on Saturday will not be our activity.
I had my prayer group this morning and then spent more than an hour out on the sidewalk talking to one of the other ladies, who also has a lot of sons. She felt much better afterward, I think. Since it was so late, we went to the library instead of the gym. Then I had a small lie-down with Jake while lasagna cooked.
Tonight I have the Stewardship Commission meeting at church. I’ll drop Tom off at school on the way, and someone else can pick him up. Yesterday I bought some wine and snacks for the meeting and left it in the church kitchen. Hopefully it will all still be there!

My dad used to say the same thing. He blamed the hypocrites in Church. It didn’t seem to bother him (as a practicing lawyer) to work with hypocrites.
I would come back to he thought of himself as a good person and didn’t want to get into what God thinks of as a good person.
Did you do that with apostrophes?
“No one is good but God alone.”
On the other hand, I think my father, who was not much of a church-goer, was a good person.
Mine!
I was going to post that I never actually heard my dad pray anywhere.
OK. Not mine.
My dad was a good man by human standards, but I suspect God judges differently. Otherwise David, who committed adultery and then covered up his sin by having a friend killed, probably wouldn’t be considered one of the good guys.
My father didn’t “hunger and thirst after righteousness.”

God judges with a perspective that’s hard for us to understand.
You were missed here, for sure!
I’ve had two breathing treatments today, and need one more, and that will be my steroid. I already called for a refill of the second med that helps with breathlessness, but I spent too much this morning to get it, even though I didn’t have much to spend.
I will have to forego getting the steroid refilled; it just seems I’m going through this stuff so doggone fast.
One of the neighbors has a visitor with a loose dog and he went after the little dog the neighbor has. Sweetest little dog, named Angel. I yelled at the guy and told him the dog has to be leashed on this property, and his response, “If I don’t, are you going to arrest me?” I will go to the office tomorrow and get a complaint form against his host. He knows the rules and should have told his company.
It was cold and damp, but we sat out for nearly an hour discussing the world and it’s problems. But my fingers and hands were cold and I have no scarf. I need to buy one because my neck and throat get so cold. By the time I put my mittens on, my fingers were already so cold they never did warm up.
And now, I think I’m going to go to bed. I will have that third breathing treatment and call it a day.
I’m sure, if we all thought about it, our take on how God feels about each of us and our daily “sinning,” we would vastly underrate His power to Forgive.
For that, I am grateful.
Hope you have a good night! I could use a good night, too. Hopefully the meeting won’t be too long.
Tomorrow I plan to begin devoting time each day to getting ready for the Advent Kitteh.
You did get something: 20:00:00h GMT.
