The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.
Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:
Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.
I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.
There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.
You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!
You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!
Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!
(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)
Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.
So, what can we do about it?
We can get drunk.
I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.
This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.
And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...
DRINK!
Good ,morning.
Enjoying the extra hour of sleep?
I did! Jake tried hard to get me out of bed to feed him, but I refused. Eventually he was sufficiently annoying that DP got up!
What a surprise! That’s pretty interesting about the gaggle of cacklers. It just goes to prove that not everyone can be an adult all the time and obey all the rules. There always has to be one (or a group) who seem to ignore everything that might put a damper on their mayhem.
Safe journey home, NoC!
Good morning!
Awwww... gray lint in the mirror! Cute little face!
I needed it for sure. I got up hardly able to walk. My hips hurt so much they woke me up around three and I had a tough time sleeping after that.
But I’m up, I’ve had my magic pills and I’m ready to face the day. I think. </jk
Good morning!
I checked my email this morning, expecting a notice from Amex saying my deposit had been made, and it wasn’t there. Odd. So I checked the account itself, and sure enough, the money was in.
When I re-checked the email, I saw that it had come in on Thursday, and I had just overlooked the notice. That must have been the day I had so much trouble with depression. *sigh*
Anyway, I can pay my bills now and with luck, I will be able to buy some groceries to last a week or two. Well, a week, anyway.
Good one!
I lose things in my email sometimes, too. Happy unexpected payday!
All the bills are paid, and I went to Walmart to get as many grocks as I could. It was an obstacle course! I don’t know why they had so much of it roped off, but I was thoroughly flustered by the time I found everything, and there were two things I couldn’t find. GAH!
So now I will wait until tomorrow to make sure all the bills have been paid (some don’t come out of the account for 24 hours) and I may not be doing too bad. Meaning, I may be able to get more groceries. Fun!
I almost forgot to put gas in the truck!
Wow. This has got to be one of the quietest Sundays I’ve ever seen on FR.
Halloween hangovers?
No, wandering offsite.
Now I have to head to the habitrail.
*ugh*
Is it possible to overdose on chocolate?
My excuse is that I was traveling. Current emphasis on was.
Teenaged-girl overload! We left for church a little late, having been held up by teenaged girls, and then I had to teach a class after Mass, and then DP and I (but no teenaged girls!) went to Walmart.
The father of Girl A has just retrieved her, and the mother of Girl B will be along eventually. Bill spent most of the day in bed, after his manager called and said he didn’t have to work today. Tom has very wisely not returned yet.
I had several drinks at Debbie’s last night, while admiring her truly classy Sweet Adeline’s Queen crown and watching marching band videos, but I felt fine today.
Not the habitrail! Oh NOOOOES!
Be safe driving!
If it’s dark chocolate, “chocolate” and “overdose” should not be in the same sentence!
Speaking of which, I think I’ll have a couple of dark chocolate kisses! I’ve earned them!
Now Girl B is gone. Peace!
My stomach is pretty upset today, and I would love to have something to settle it, but I have an appointment in a couple of hours, so I have to forego any Pink Drink. I’m driving, you know!
Tomorrow is laundry day again. Seems like it’s always laundry day, any more. But if I don’t keep to the self-imposed schedule, it will overwhelm me to the point that I can’t get any of it done.
And I’m sleepy, too, can’t nap...Downton Abbey is on! LOL!
YAY!!!
A Sunday evening appointment? Drive safely!
We can have our sit-around with Shannon later and watch Downton Abbey. We just saw the episode where Lady Sybil died.
I got Kathleen some Cinderella shoes and tiara 50% off at Walmart, and a scary t-shirt for Tom.
