A Modest Proposal: The Thread Hijack Drinking Game [vanity]
Still me. | Today | Me

Posted on 07/31/2015 11:49:41 AM PDT by Slings and Arrows

The time has come to take action against thread hijackers.

Let me begin with an example of thread hijacking:

Like most Freepers, I am pro-life. Abortion and and euthanasia appall me, and marketing the results even more so. I support candidates who oppose the culture of death, and cheer when it is thwarted.

I also do not find it necessary to mention these facts on EVERY. FREAKING. THREAD.

There is a certain type of Freeper, though, who has no such restraint. For these zealots, any thread that deviates from the pro-life cause, no matter how trivially, is a heresy that must be immediately suppressed.

You are shocked by cruelty to animals? I guess that means you couldn't care less about the cruelty of THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN ABORTED EVERY YEAR!!!!!

You lost a beloved pet? Why can't you mourn THE THOUSANDS OF ABORTED BABIES WHO DIED THE SAME DAY?!!!!

Your car shredded its transmission and you're looking at thousands of dollars in repairs? Why aren't you thinking about THE BABIES WHO WILL NEVER GROW UP TO BE AUTO MECHANICS BECAUSE THEY WERE ABORTED?!!!!

(OK, maybe I made that last one up.)

Arguing with these people is pointless. It's the same principle as wrestling with a pig - you just get muddy and the pig enjoys it. Similarly, trying to convince them that they are being rude is a waste of time - THE CAUSE is far more important little things like courtesy and respect.

So, what can we do about it?

We can get drunk.

I hereby propose The Thread Hijack Drinking Game. The rules are simple: When a poster tries to hijack an unrelated thread to his or her pet cause, you 1) reply to the hijack attempt by quoting the text in question, followed by the word "DRINK!", and 2) Take a drink (or any volume) of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Moderation is suggested on animal cruelty threads to avoid alcohol poisoning.

This game will not, I admit, solve the thread hijacking problem. But after a certain number of attempts we will no longer care.

And if anyone is offended by my little proposal, I can only say...

DRINK!

Ungrateful trick or treater...

Good morning.

The depression seems to have lifted a bit, but it’s not even 0600, so I don’t know how the day will go. I may end up in tears again. But we shall see.

Odd...I got a package in the mail today that I didn’t order. No return label except North Las Vegas, and it was taped with “Amazon Prime” tape. Hmmmm....curiouser and curiouser.

When I opened it, I found a cute little lavender and purple-striped stuffed kitteh! What a cheery little visitor! Thanks! (You know who you are...)

It is now on top of my file cabinet. <3

Lavender and purple ... an unusual-breed kitteh!

We have returned from the Spanish ministry set-around followed by picking Sally and her friends up at the Renaissance Festival. Tom has vacated the premises until it’s free of extraneous teenaged girls. Bill will probably stop in after work long enough to put on his costume.

The HOA had a Hallowe’en party this afternoon because the fall celebration a month ago was rained out. The children ate a lot of popsicles and hot dogs.

I think I’ll go put on the dress I’m wearing tonight, so I can get my makeup done.

;o])

I’m feeling better today, and not quite so dyslexic. An improvement.

I’m feeling a little queasy, but emotionally, I’m good. At least, better than I was, and that’s for sure.

I’m so anxious to see the costumes! Folks here (Vegas) go all out for ANY holiday, and today is no different, though most of the valley does the Trunk or Treat, rather than going to individual houses because so many kids in the last 10 years have been hit by cars on Halloween. Some didn’t live to tell about it, and some are maimed for life.

Trunk or Treat is much safer.

There were a lot of Hallowe’en costumes at the Renaissance Festival, as well as various efforts at historical costumes. Some people, you couldn’t tell if it was a costume or just how they go around every day ;-).

Makeup mostly done. It’s just regular evening-out makeup, nothing drastic. I’m an understated, administrative witch, perhaps played by Judi Dench.

I’m glad you liked little Molly.

I have one too.. She cheers me when I’m sad because I don’t have a kitten.

I thought you could use a kitty since you don’t have one anymore

Hang in there,,

It really is a very thoughtful gift, and I appreciate it more than you know!

And I will keep the name Molly for it. Fitting!

I was sitting at the table in the ramada with three of the Cronies, and the mail came (it’s why we sit there every day!) and I went down to check mine, expecting nothing but junk mail. And there was a key for a package box...

I didn’t order anything (wrong side of payday) so I was really perplexed. And then the return addy was North Las Vegas, but the Amazon Prime tape told me it was from someone I may know. Yep. <3

Thanks again!

Found out this place has WiFi and sweet talked someone out of the password. (Actually, they directed my attention to a sign posted on the office window in plain sight.) Unfortunately to use it you need to be sitting in the lobby as the wifi signal does not reach much beyond there. Along with our group of about 30 there is a woman s group of 87 from NYC.

When they are loose it sounds like lunch time in the henhouse.

Not to mention they have no concept of ‘quiet hours’... I’m sitting in the lobby and a gaggle them just moseyed past cackling like they just laid eggs. Even stopped and read - out loud - the screen that states quiet hours are between 11pm and7am (its now 1215am). Then proceeded to cackle their way on down the hall at the same volume..

I’m prolly being sexist..
